The American Athletic Conference is the postseason title game for the conference, and it is held on the first Saturday in December. The 12-team league was divided equally into two divisions of six teams each, with the best conference record in each division meeting for the title.

AAC Championship Historical Notes

Houston cruised past Temple at home in the inaugural game held in 2015 to capture the conference title, while Temple rebounded in 2016 with a big win over favored Navy.

UCF finished off a perfect regular season by outlasting Memphis in the 2017 title game in double-overtime, 62-55. The Knights completed a second straight unblemished regular season mark in 2018 by rallying past the Tigers once again, 56-41.

Memphis finally got over the hump after consecutive championship defeats by knocking off Cincinnati, 29-24. The Tigers are the fourth different team to win the AAC title and are the only club in the conference to make this championship game three times.

Cincinnati held off Tulsa in 2020 to post a perfect record in a 27-24 win. The Golden Hurricane managed to cover as double-digit underdogs in their first AAC title game appearance.
