Nevada Wolf Pack vs. Kansas State Wildcats Predictions

Score Prediction - Nevada 24 Kansas State 20

Writing this article is a little bittersweet. If you read my preseason predictions here on VegasInsider, then you know these are both teams I was fairly high on coming into the year. That being said, I went with my gut in Week 1 with Kansas State and won a couple bets, then proceeded to doubt myself and bet against a Nevada team I like a lot and lost. With only a 1.5-point spread, bookmakers clearly think this will come down to the last minute and it's hard for me to disagree.

Kansas State is the kind of team that nobody wants to play, a team I hate betting against. They're one of the best home underdog teams in college football and have a savvy group of veteran players ready to grind as hard as possible. Quarterback Skylar Thompson is ruled out for this game, but that surprisingly only really moved the spread half a point. While I understand he isn't necessarily what makes this team great, losing your starting quarterback always a concern.

Nevada is going to approach this game the way they approach every game, they’re going to air it out. Carson Strong, a NFL hopeful, had a lot of buzz surrounding him this season but hasn't quite lived up to it yet. While he has been good, watching his tape he just doesn't quite look as dominant as expected. The real question is, can the Kansas State defense (mostly secondary) slow down this Nevada high paced aerial attack?

Betting this game is really tough, like picking which kid I like more, luckily for you guys that kid is Carson Strong. My biggest investment for this game will probably be in the player prop category on Kansas State running back Deuce Vaughn, who has dominated thus far this year. As for the spread, I will be sprinkling (very lightly) on Strong and Nevada at -1.5 but with the understanding that this Kansas State team is legit.

Nevada Wolf Pack vs. Kansas State Wildcats Betting Analysis

If quarterback Carson Strong still wants to be in the NFL first round draft discussion then these are the type of games he needs to win. On the road against a solid Kansas State team will surely be a great opportunity for him to put up some amazing game tape in a very harsh enemy territory. I personally think he's good enough to beat this Kansas State squad, but it won't be easy.

With how good this Kansas State team is against the spread, I wouldn't even be surprised if this ends up being decided then less than one point. As a bettor this game is frustrating as heck, but as a sports fan I'm pumped for this one.
