Texas A&M Aggies vs. Ole Miss Rebels Predictions

Lane Kiffin has called for Katy Perry to come to Oxford once again as College GameDay returns to the site of the most famous show in the program’s history. Perry was there the last time the show took place at Ole Miss, and the Rebels went on to upset the Alabama Crimson Tide. Kiffin is hoping that Perry’s presence could spark an upset over the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night.

Texas A&M has been one of the five best teams in college football since suffering losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State. The Aggies knocked off both Alabama and Auburn in College Station, and they blasted Missouri and South Carolina in between those victories. This defense will contain Matt Corral and keep the Aggies just behind the Crimson Tide in the race for the SEC West division title.

Texas A&M Aggies Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 7-2
  • ATS: 6-3
  • O/U: 3-6
  • ATS - Home: 5-1
  • ATS - Away: 1-2

It appeared it would be a lost season for Texas A&M after Haynes King went down with an injury. The offense struggled at first under Zach Calzada, but he has settled into a groove under Jimbo Fisher’s tutelage. Calzada isn’t the most accurate quarterback, completing 52% or less of his passes in the Aggies’ last three games, but he does enough to keep the Aggies winning.

The Aggies can run the ball very well. Isaiah Spiller and Devon Achane are both averaging at least 6.0 YPC, and both running backs should finish the season with over 1,000 yards. Texas A&M is averaging 5.5 YPC, ranking ninth in the country.

Tight end Jalen Wydermyer is a matchup nightmare and can get open against any defense, and Ainias Smith has S-Tier speed.

Texas A&M’s defense is ranked fifth in Defensive SP+. Mike Elko is one of the best in the business, and he has a truly special edge rusher in DeMarvin Leal. Leal has 5.5 sacks this year, and that has helped Tyree Johnson and others get to the quarterback. The Aggies are allowing 14.7 PPG and 4.4 yards per play.

Ole Miss Rebels Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 7-2
  • ATS: 5-3-1
  • O/U: 3-6
  • ATS - Home: 4-1-1
  • ATS - Away: 1-2

Corral has established himself as a Heisman Trophy contender at Ole Miss. Corral is completing over two-thirds of his passes for 9.3 YPA with 16 touchdowns and just two interceptions. He has built off a fantastic 2020 campaign, and he can tuck it and run too. Corral leads the Rebels with 528 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.

The top receiver in this offense is Dontario Drummond. However, offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby is a master at scheming different players open for big plays. That’s important considering Drummond’s status is in doubt. He left the Auburn game early with a hamstring injury two weeks ago, and he didn’t play last week against Liberty. Braylon Sanders is a deep threat in every game, but he isn’t at 100% either, and Jonathan Mingo has been out since mid-September.

Ole Miss has a trio of running backs that all see playing time. Jerrion Ealy, Snoop Conner, and Henry Parrish Jr. are all averaging at least 5.3 YPC. That helps make this offense fifth per Offensive SP+.

This defense is marginal though. The Rebels are allowing 4.4 YPC and 7.9 YPA. That has led to some risk taking, and Ole Miss does rank fifth in sack percentage.
