At the Gate – Sunday

Sunday’s feature at Belmont Park is the $100,000 Royal Delta with a field of six lining up to go 1 1/16 miles on the main track. Divine Miss Grey is the 2-1 morning line favorite, but she won the Dr. James Penny Memorial at Philly yesterday and will scratch.

That leaves Berned as the likely favorite. The Graham Motion trainee comes into the race off a victory in the Molly Pitcher (G3) at Monmouth Park in her last outing.

Frostie Annie is coming off a game win in the state bred Saratoga Dew, her sixth win in a row and that is where I am going to land. She is 5-1 on the morning line but is going to be much shorter now with the scratch.

After dealing with Mother Nature on what seemed like a daily basis at Saratoga we will be looking to the skies at Kentucky Downs this afternoon. There is rain in the forecast all day, but there is no option to move the race to the main track.

Low takeout and large fields lead to some really good wagering opportunities at the Franklin, Kentucky racetrack. Today’s features are the $300,000 Dueling Grounds Oaks and the $400,000 Dueling Grounds Derby. Both races are included in today’s Best Plays Report.

Now is the perfect time to purchase my Monthly Package for just $99.95. It gives you a month of Belmont Park daily and my Best Plays Report each Saturday and Sunday.

Here is the opener from Belmont Park to get the day off to a good start:

BEL Race 1 Clm $12,500 (1:30 ET)
#2 Arewehavingfunyet 8-5
#5 Madame Barbarian 7-5
#1 Majestic Kindness 5-2
#4 Caoimhe 12-1

Analysis: Arewehavingfunyet
tracked the early pace and finished evenly in a third-place finish going seven furlongs at the Spa against $20,000 foes. She drops into a softer spot here facing just four foes for a $12,500 tag. Her last win came at a one turn mile at the Big A back in March. The extra furlong here will suit her and she has run okay over the main track here, landing in the money in three of her four trips.

Madame Barbarian took the field gate to wire in the slop to win for this tag going nine furlongs last out. She has run over off tracks in three of her last four starts including a win here in the mud at this level. Gullo claimed her out of that race here and after not firing in her first start for the barn she is heading in the right direction form wise. A threat to win right back here and not much separates the top pair here.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 8 The Royal Delta (5:18 ET)
#6 Frostie Anne 5-1
#5 Berned 3-1
#3 Come Dancing 8-1
#2 Dreamcall 6-1

Analysis: Frostie Anne
has won six of her eight starts this year with a second and a third. She took the state bred Saratoga Dew last out at the Spa going nine furlongs for her sixth win in a row. The RRod barn claimed this gal for just $25,000 last December and she has racked up $230,490 this year. With the scratch of Divine Miss Grey she should be right in the mix early and looks sharp enough to win right back. She has won 4 of 6 over the main track here.

Berned stalked the early pace and finished strongly to win the Molly Pitcher (G3) last out at Monmouth Park at today's distance. Her win over the main track here was her maiden breaker back in '16. She comes in here sharp but the question is whether she is going to get enough pace to run at. She has run well going one turn including a win the seven furlong Safely Kept.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Kentucky Downs:

KD Race 9 The Dueling Grounds Derby (5:33 CT)
#6 Bandua 4-1
#7 Captivating Moon 3-1
#9 Channel Cat 7-2
#4 Reride 5-1

Analysis: Bandua
stalked the early pace and finished up well in a third-place finish in the Secretariat (G1) over good ground at Arlington Park in his U.S. debut. This guy won his first two starts on heavy ground at Cork in Ireland and with the amount of rain in the forecast likely is going to relish the conditions and course layout here. The colt looks dangerous in this spot and likely gets bet down from his 4-1 morning line.

Captivating Moon also exits the Secretariat where he saved ground early and finished evenly in a fifth-place finish, beaten 3 1/4 lengths for the top spot. The colt made a good late rally two back to finish in the runner up spot in the American Derby (G3). He ran well earlier this spring on yielding ground in Kentucky in a couple of runner up finishes in graded stakes company. Block is live sending out runners here, winning with 5 of 21 starters here dating back five years.

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.
