At the Gate – Wednesday
We start off with three stakes at Saratoga on Wednesday as we enter the third week of the meeting, the feature the $200,000 Honorable Miss Handicap (G2) for fillies and mares going six furlongs on the main track. The Wednesday card opens with the $75,000 Jonathan Kiser Novice, a 2 1/16-mile jump race. Also on the card is a New York Stallion Series race at a mile on turf that drew a field of 1o with nine likely to start.
The Honorable Miss is led by Mia Mischief, the 7-5 morning line favorite. She has won three of her last four starts including the Humana Distaff (G1) at Churchill Downs. As you can see below, I am going to try and beat her with Chalon.
Chad Brown is leading the trainer standings after two weeks with six wins from 37 starters, hitting at a 16% clip. Last year Brown ran away with the trainer’s title winning at a 27% clip.
Bill Mott and Linda Rice have each won four races while Todd Pletcher has won three races with his 26 starters, hitting at just a 12% rate.
Jose Ortiz has taken over the top spot in the jockey standings with a dozen winners from 47 mounts. Luis Saez is off to a good start with 10 wins from his 53 mounts.
Next in line with seven wins are Javier Castellano, Jose Lezcano and Irad Ortiz. Irad won the title last summer.

Here is the second race (the opener is a steeplechase) from Saratoga to get the day off to a good start:
SAR Race 2 Md Sp Wt (1:25 ET)
#1 Freaky Styley / 1a Constructor 8-1
#3 Financialstability 7-2
#2 Clear the Ramp 20-1
#9 Golani Brigade 3-1
Analysis: Freaky Styley makes his debut for Abreu, a former top assistant to trainer Chad Brown. The trainer is 21% winners (with a +ROI) with first time starters. The colt is by Scat Daddy out of a El Corredor mare that has dropped one winner. A solid string of works. Entrymate Constructor tracked the early pace, came with a four wide bid and was no match for an eight-length winner in a runner up finish in his debut over a wet track in a race washed off the turf. He comes back off a long layoff for the Albertrani barn that is 22% winners (with a +ROI) with runners coming back off a +180-day layoff. Completes a solid entry.
Financialstability is a $290,000 Ocala purchase sent out by the Brown barn that is 20% winners with firsters. He is by Midnight Lute out of a stakes placed Lion Heart mare that has dropped one winner. Quick works at Monmouth Park. Dating back three years Brown has hit at a 19% clip here at the Spa with firsters and this is his first debut runners at the meet.

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Saratoga:
SAR Race 8 The Honorable Miss Hcp G2 (6:09 ET)
#2 Halon 5-2
#4 Mia Mischief 7-5
#6 Ours to Run 7-2
#1 Pacific Gale 9-2
Analysis: Chalon was bumped coming out of the gate, raced last early and came with a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot last out in the Bed of Roses (G3) behind gate to wire winner Separationofpowers. The winner was taking full advantage of a racing strip that was playing to inside speed. She missed in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) last fall by a head and off the bench was a sharp winner of the Skipat at Pimlico two back. She owns a solid pace profile throughout and cuts back to a better distant of six furlongs here.
Mia Mischief dueled for the early lead and finished gamely to win the Roxelana last out at Churchill Downs. She won the Humana Distaff (G1) two back with a career top speed fig. The filly has now landed in the exacta in 13 of her 15 career starts She made two starts here last summer, seconds in the Test (G1) and Prioress (G2). She looks capable of moving forward off her last effort, but it appears she is going to be a light price.
