Friday's Picks from Aqueduct

We had a pretty good day on Thursday to kick off the week with three winners on top and my second choice winning four other races on the nine race card at Aqueduct.

There was a bit too much chalk, the early Pick 5 returning just $79.25. The Late Pick 5 paid much better coming in at $819.50 despite having a couple of short priced favorites winning.

The field sizes at the Big A have held up really well and we have plenty of big fields today and on tomorrow’s card.

The shortest field on Saturday comes in the $100,000 Alex M. Robb, the feature which drew a compact field of six New York breds that will go 1 1/8-miles on the main track.

The John Kimmel trained Mr. Buff is the 7-5 morning line favorite. The six-year-old is back with state breds after finishing a well beaten fifth in the Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) on Dec. 5 at Aqueduct in his last outing.

Tomorrow we will head out to Gulfstream Park as well as we have four stakes on the card—the $200,000 Fort Lauderdale (G2), $100,000 Harlan’s Holiday (G3), $100,000 Rampart (G3) and the $75,000 My Charmer.

I will include all four stakes from Gulfstream Park in tomorrow’s Best Plays Report.

You can stream the action from Aqueduct today on YouTube or by using the TVG App. The horse betting company based in the U.S. is offering a 50% deposit match up to $250 .

Here is the opening from Aqueduct to get the day off to a good start:

Race 1 Md $40,000

  • #8 Bastet 7-2
  • #7 Wishes and Dreams 3-1
  • #4 Boom Boom Girl 6-1
  • #6 Zerenia 5-1

Analysis: Bastet makes her second start for a tag and her first on dirt here for the Mott barn. This gal is 0 for 6 with a third in her second career start her best finish. She is by Cairo Prince out of an Officer mare and has worked well on dirt including a bullet best of 135 over the Belmont Park training track last month. She catches a soft spot here and put in a good breeze on dirt on Dec. 7. Mott is 12% winners moving runners from turf to dirt.

Wishes and Dreams came back off a 2 1/2 month break last out and caught a sloppy track where she made a good late rally to finish in the runner up spot for a $30,000 tag. The racing strip that day was playing to inside speed. Two back she ran a good second to Fishing Red, who came back to beat $50,000 claimer sin her next start and the third-place finisher Spanish Peaks was a next out grad for a $10,000 tag at Churchill Downs in her next outing on Sept. 18. Looks as if she can handle the extra furlong. She is out of a Bernardini mare that has dropped two other foals to race, both winners.

Race 7 Clm $25,000

  • #9 So High 7-2
  • #10 Hayabusa 9-2
  • #4 Vip Nation 8-1
  • #3 Ghost Giant 9-2

Analysis: So High tracked the early pace and finished gamely to beat $35,000 non-winners of three last out in his first trip over the Big A turf. He bounced back after checking in a well beaten 10th two back trying to go 1 1/2 miles at Keeneland against Alw-2 company. The gelding is in good hands with the Thomas barn and Rosario sticks. He is facing open company here but looks like a good fit in here for a $25,000 tag.

Hayabusa was last early and made a mild late run to finish third last out against $40,000 foes going 1 3/8 miles on turf. The winner of that race was Hieroglyphics who beat Alw-2 optional claimers in his next start on Nov. 21 here. The seven-year-old has not won since taking a Alw-2 race at Santa Anita back in Jan. of '18. This guy has some back class, G2 placed. He makes his first start here for the Englehart barn that is 17% winners with newcomers to the barn. He looks well spotted here dropping in for a $25,000 tag.

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

  • R2: #2 Mr Hot Chacha 8-1
  • R3: #5 Make Or Break 8-1
  • R4: #9 Miss Mi Mi 12-1
  • R5: #10 Photofinish Jeanne 10-1
  • R5: #11 Stella Mars 8-1
  • R7: #4 Vip Nation 8-1
  • R9: #8 Nebo 12-1
  • R9: #9 Delaware Destiny 15-1

Good luck today!
