How to Handicap the Filly and Mare Turf

All turf race participants are analyzed in post position order.

1-Going To Vegas set moderate fractions and was able to keep the closers away when she won the G1 Rodeo Drive last out at Santa Anita.

2-Pocket Square stretches out after a pair of easy scores against lesser at Saratoga and Belmont.

3-Acanella won a G3 two starts back, just her second win from seven career starts, all this year as a sophomore filly.

4- Rougir was finally on the receiving end of a good photo finish picture when she captured the G1 Prix de l’Opera on the Arc undercard last out, her fourth consecutive decision that was decided by a neck or less.

5-Queen Supreme dominated in South Africa before switching to her new barn in Europe. Appears to have lost her best form.

6-Love has won five G1 races in Europe and makes her U.S. debut on a three-race losing streak. Overall she has won half of her 14 starts.

7-War Like Goddess has won six of seven overall and rides a four-race win streak into this that includes an easy romp in the G1 Flower Bowl on closing weekend at Saratoga.

8-Loves Only You could be Japan’s best hope yet at winning a B.C. event She’s won twice in four starts this year and just missed to Mshriff on the Dubai World Cup undercard.

9-My Sister Nat will look to emulate big sis Sistercharlie who took this down in 2018. She jogged to an easy tally in the Waya at Belmont despite slow fractions.

10-Ocean Road appears hopelessly overmatched as she has won just once from five starts.

11- Dogtag will be stretching out to this trip for the first time having finished third in the Rodeo Drive without making much impact late last out.

Defending champ 12-Audarya is looking for her first win in five starts since upsetting this at over 17-1 last year.

Filly and Mare Turf Predictions

If I’m Right…

I honestly think the American based runners, namely War Like Goddess hold the edge this year. The Euros seem to be coming in reeling.

Live Longshot

Pocket Square intrigues me. She’s been a bit of an underachiever since her U.S. debut but maybe the added distance will be to her liking.
