MLB expert Joe Nelson has tabbed Texas as a team to watch to make noise in the American League, "Starting pitching should be of enhanced importance in this short season and the Rangers have a rotation that stands up well against the rest of the AL West with the additions of Corey Kluber and Kyle Gibson. The new ballpark offers some unknowns but Houston and Oakland look unlikely to match last season's pace while after the Dodgers, the NL West draw isn't overly formidable. Texas gets 17 of its 30 games with Houston, Oakland, and the Angels at home, and all three games with the Dodgers are in Texas as well."

Feeling San Diego

In the National League, the San Diego Padres are a club looking to take the next step as a potential Wild Card team. VI handicapper Matt Blunt gives his take on the improved Padres, "They are a team I've been high since the winter, as they look like a team with a great blend of phenomenal young talent and established veteran leadership. San Diego spent years stockpiling young talent and now is the time for that talent to mature and produce results on the baseball field."

"Adding an established winner like Tommy Pham - who seemingly finds his way to the playoffs no matter what team is on - was a sneaky good addition for this team, and with the likes of Eric Hosmer, Manny Machado and Wil Myers already there, that's a strong core of established All-Star caliber players in this league."
