Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Betting Predictions

The Toronto Blue Jays have started their season off right, winning two of three in their opening series with the Rangers and  the first game of the series against New York. The Blue Jays put their bats to work against the Rangers with 20 total runs scored in three games. The pitching could use some improvement as they allowed the Rangers 23 total runs throughout the series. Right-handed pitcher Jose Berrios is scheduled to take the mound on Wednesday. Berrios went 12-9 last season with an ERA of 3.52 and struck out 204 batters in 192.0 innings of work.

The Yankees managed to win two of three games against Boston in their first series of the season, but lost 3-0 to Toronto in their first matchup on Monday night. After putting up 10 total runs in their first two games, the Yankees scored just three runs combined in their next two games. I would not expect that to become a trend as New York has some of the most powerful hitters in the game. Gerrit Cole is expected to get the start for the Yankees. Cole pitched for the Yankees on opening day and lasted 4.0 innings while giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs.

I like the Yankees to win this one in a close game. I expect Gerrit Cole to have a much better outing than his opening day performance. Cole  pitched very well against the Blue Jays last season and  that trend should continue. Jose Berrios should also do a solid job of keeping the Yankees bats at bay to keep the total from going over 8.5.

Toronto Blue Jays Betting Analysis

  • SU: 3-1
  • RL: 2-2
  • O/U: 2-2

After a handful of games played Toronto is 3-1 SU, 2-2 ATS, and have an O/U record of 2-2. Going back to last season the Blue Jays are 6-2 in their last eight matchups against the Yankees. The total has gone over in four of their last six games. Going against this trend, the total has gone under in five of Toronto’s last five road games.

The Blue Jays have looked good on the offensive side to start the season. As a team they have a batting average of .279 (3rd), on base percentage of .336 (9th), 23 runs scored (T-5th), and a slugging percentage of .507 (1st). Center fielder George Springer has been great for Toronto with a batting average of .389 (7-18), four RBIs, and two home runs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr has also had a solid start with a batting average of .333 (5-15), with four RBIs, and one home run. The Blue Jays had success against the Yankees on Monday night with 10 total hits and three RBI’s.

The pitching was not the best in the series against the Rangers but did manage to shut out the Yankees on Monday. As a team the Blue Jays have had one quality start (T-3rd), are allowing opposing teams a batting average of .235 (16th), and have an ERA of 5.75 (26th). The right-hander Jose Berrios is scheduled to take the mound on Wednesday. Berrios went 12-9 last season with an ERA of 3.52 and struck out 204 batters in 192.0 innings of work. In two games against the Yankees last season Berrios gave up five runs in 12.2 innings pitched.

New York Yankees Betting Analysis

  • SU: 2-2
  • RL: 1-3
  • O/U: 1-3

The Yankees have started the season with a SU record of 2-2, an ATS record of 1-3, and an O/U record of 1-3. Going back to last season the total has gone under in six of New York’s last nine games. Prior to Tuesday night’s game, the Yankees have lost the last five home games against the Blue Jays.

New York’s offense has struggled to start the season. As a team New York has a batting average of .214 (19th), an on base percentage of .316 (12th), a slugging percentage of .351 (17th), and have scored 13 total runs (20th). First baseman Anthony Rizzo has been solid thus far with a batting average of .250 (3-12), 6 RBIs, and two home runs. Giancarlo Stanton has also been productive with a batting average of .294 (5-17), four RBIs, and two home runs. New York will look to bounce back in this one after being shut out on Monday.

The Yankees pitching has not been terrible, but have not had much help from the offense. As a team the Yankees have not had a quality start, allowed opponents a batting average of .209 (9th), and have an ERA of 3.08 (9th). Right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole is expected to get the start for the Yankees. Cole pitched for the Yankees on opening day and lasted 4.0 innings while giving up four hits and three earned runs to the Red Sox. In five games against the Blue Jays last season Cole gave 12 runs in 28.3 innings of work.

  • NYY: Gerrit Cole - RHP (0-0, 6.75 ERA, 3 K, 1.25 WHIP)

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Betting Conclusion

Pitching should be dominate the game on both sides. Gerrit Cole had a rough outing for the Yankees on opening day, but based on his success against Toronto last season, should have a better start on Wednesday Night. Jose Berrios should have a decent start as well and be able to keep the Yankees from scoring too many runs. Backing Gerrit Cole and the Yankees here as well as the under the run total of 8.5.
