Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox Betting Predictions

Toronto enters this one after winning two out of three in a series with the Oakland Athletics. The Blue Jays have had a strong start to the season and look good both offensively and from a pitching standpoint. In their most recent game with the A’s, Toronto had seven total hits and brought in four runs. Starting pitcher Alex Manoah had a solid outing, giving up four hits, two runs, and struck out six batters in 6.0 innings of work. Left-handed pitcher Yusei Kikuchi is scheduled to take the mound on Tuesday. Kikuchi is 0-1 this season and has allowed five hits, two earned runs, and struck out two batters in 3.1 innings of work.

Boston is coming off a four-game series with the Minnesota Twins. The Red Sox took two of four games, losing the first and last game of the series. Boston has shown inconsistency to start the season, looking great in some games while other games they look like an entirely different team. In their most recent 8-3 loss to the Twins, the Red Sox had 11 total hits but managed to score just three runs. Starting pitcher Rich Hill had a rough day, giving up six hits, four earned runs, and striking out just two batters in 4.2 innings. The right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is expected to get the start on Tuesday. Eovaldi is 1-0 this season and has allowed nine hits, five earned runs, and struck out 13 batters in 10.0 innings pitched.

I like Boston to bounce back in this game after a poor outing on Monday. Kikuchi struggled for Toronto in his first outing and I think that trend will continue on Tuesday. The Red Sox have been hitting well off of left-handed hitters thus far and Kikuchi gave up eight runs in two starts against Boston last season. Backing the Red Sox moneyline here.

Toronto Blue Jays Betting Analysis

After 10 games played the Blue Jays are 6-4 SU, 4-6 ATS, and have an O/U record of 4-6. The total has now gone under in five of Toronto’s last seven games this season as well as nine of their last 10 road games. Following this trend, the total has gone under in four of the last five when playing on the road against Boston. Toronto has had recent success against Boston with a SU record of 4-1 in their last five matchups.

Toronto has had a solid start to the season offensively. As a team they have a batting average of .252 (9th), on base percentage of .318 (13th), slugging percentage of .435 (6th), and have scored 42 total runs (16th). The Blue Jays also have the second most home runs in the league with 14 on the season. The first baseman Vladimir Gurrero Jr has led the way for the Blue Jays with a batting average of .289 (11-38), five HR, and 10 RBIs. Left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr has also had a great start with a batting average of .306 (11-36) and five RBIs.

The Blue Jays gave up 12 runs to the Rangers in game three of the season, but other than that have been consistent with the pitching. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .237 (17th), have an ERA of 4.50 (23rd), and have allowed 45 total runs (24th). Toronto used four pitchers in their most recent game against Oakland. Starting pitcher Alex Manoah had a solid outing, giving up four hits, two runs, and struck out six batters in 6.0 innings of work. The other three pitchers gave up a combined two hits and one run. The Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi is expected to start on Tuesday. Kikuchi is 0-1 this season and has allowed five hits, two earned runs, and struck out two batters in 3.1 innings of work.

Boston Red Sox Betting Analysis

Boston is .500 after 10 games with a SU record of 5-5, 6-4 ATS, and have an O/U record of 4-6. The total has gone under in six of the Red Sox last nine games and four of their last five when playing at home against Toronto. Going against this trend, the total has gone over in seven of Boston's last nine home games.

As mentioned before the Red Sox have been inconsistent to begin the season and that includes the offense. As a team they have a batting average of .237 (14th), on base percentage of .290 (23rd), slugging percentage of .395 (12th), and have scored 45 total runs (10th). The third baseman Rafael Devers has been a monster with a batting average of .349 (15-43), two HR, and seven RBIs.  Boston will be without catcher Kevin Plawecki and two staff members for Tuesday’s game as they have tested positive for Covid-19.

Boston’s pitching has been just as inconsistent as the offense through the first 10 games. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .225 (12th), have an ERA of 4.15 (21st), and have allowed 43 total runs (19th). In their most recent 8-3 loss to the Twins the Red Sox used four different pitchers. Starting pitcher Rich Hill had a rough day, giving up 6 hits, four earned runs, and striking out just two batters in 4.2 innings. The other three pitchers allowed a combine three hits and four runs. Right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is expected to take the mound Tuesday. Eovaldi is 1-0 this season and has allowed nine hits, five earned runs, and struck out 13 batters in 10.0 innings pitched.

  • BOS: Rafael Devers - 3B (Last Game: 1-5)
  • BOS: Xander Bogaerts - SS (Last Game: 3-5, 2B, R)

Probable Pitchers

  • TOR: Yusei Kikuchi - LHP (0-1, 5.40 ERA, 2 K, 2.10 WHIP)
  • BOS: Nathan Eovaldi - RHP (1-0, 4.50 ERA, 13 K, 1.10 WHIP)

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox Betting Conclusion

Boston is 2-2 at home this season while Toronto is 2-2 on the road. The Red Sox have won four of their last six games and have scored at least four runs in five of those games. The Blue Jays have struggled a bit on the road this season, averaging less than 3 runs per game. I like the Red Sox in this matchup as I think Boston will see success against Toronto’s starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. Expect Boston to look much better than they did on Monday and secure the win.
