New York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals Betting Predictions

The Mets were able to win game one of the series thanks to five runs in the ninth inning. The team had nine hits on the day and went 2-6 with runners in scoring position. Pitcher Max Scherzer had a great outing, going 7.0 innings and allowing just two hits and zero runs. The other two pitchers used gave up three hits and two runs. The right-hander Chris Bassitt is scheduled to take the mound on Tuesday. Bassitt is 2-1 in three games this season with an ERA of 3.0 and has allowed 13 hits, six earned runs, and struck out 20 batters in 18.0 innings.

The Cardinals blew a 2-0 lead headed into the ninth inning and lost 5-2 on Monday. Starter Miles Mikolas lasted 7.0 innings and gave up four hits and zero runs. The other three pitchers used gave up five hits and five runs. The offense had a slow day going against Max Scherzer with five hits and two runs. Right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks is expected to get the start for the Cardinals. Hick is 1-1 in three games this season with an ERA of 1.29 and has allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out eight batters in 7.0 innings of work.

I like the Mets to win game two of the series. Bassitt has pitched well in his three games this season and should be able to go at least five to six innings. Hicks has looked good for the Cardinals, but has not pitched more than 3.0 innings in a single game. I also expect the Mets to be more productive on the offensive end in game two and push the total over. Backing the Mets moneyline here.

New York Mets Betting Analysis

After winning on Monday the Mets are 13-5 SU, 12-6 ATS, and have an O/U record of 6-9-3. New York is 8-4 in their last 12 games and are 3-2 SU in their last five road games. The Mets have struggled against the Cardinals in the past, going 4-9 in their last 13 games when playing on the road against St. Louis.

New York has been hitting the ball very well this season. As a team they have a batting average of .253 (4th), on base percentage of .340 (2nd), slugging percentage of .389 (11th), and have scored 86 runs (3rd). The shortstop Francisco Lindor has led the way for the Mets with a batting average of .313 (20-64), four home runs, and 12 RBIs. Right Fielder Starling Marte has been efficient as well with a batting average of .254 (16-63), two home runs, and 13 RBIs.

The Mets pitching has been excellent thus far. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .193 (2nd), have an ERA of 2.69 (4th), and have given up 51 runs (5th). Right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt is scheduled to take the mound on Tuesday. Bassitt is 2-1 in three games this season with an ERA of 3.0 and has allowed 13 hits, six earned runs, and struck out 20 batters in 18.0 innings.

St. Louis Cardinals Betting Analysis

After 15 games played the Cardinals are 9-6 SU, 9-6 ATS, and have an O/U record of 5-8-2. The total has gone under in seven of St. Louis last eight games. Going against this trend, the total has gone over in nine of their last 14 games against the Mets. St. Louis is 8-5 in their last 13 games when playing at home against the Mets.

St. Louis has done a decent job hitting the ball this season. As a team they have a batting average of .233 (15th), on base percentage of .310 (16th), slugging percentage of .364 (16th), and have scored 62 runs (17th). The third baseman Nolan Arenado leads the team in most categories with a batting average of .364 (20-55), five home runs, and 14 RBIs. The first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is still trying to find a groove this season with a batting average of .236 (13-55), zero home runs, and five RBIs.

Aside from Monday’s loss, the pitching for St. Louis has been a key part to their success. As a team the Cardinals are allowing opponents a batting average of .229 (17th), have an ERA of 2.72 (5th), and have given up 46 runs (2nd). The right-hander Jordan Hicks is expected to get the start for the Cardinals. Hicks is 1-1 in three games this season with an ERA of 1.29 and has allowed three hits, one earned run, and struck out eight batters in 7.0 innings of work.

New York Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals Betting Conclusion

I like the Mets in game two of this series. Chris Bassitt should be able to give them a quality start and after waiting nine innings to score a run in game one, I expect the Mets to have much more success hitting the ball and help push the total over. Jordan Hicks hasn’t pitched more than three innings in a single game this season which could be a problem if the Mets are able to get things rolling on offense. Backing the Mets moneyline and the over in this matchup.
