Boston Red Sox vs. Atlanta Braves Betting Predictions

Boston enters this matchup fifth in the AL East, 10.5 games behind the first place Yankees. The Red Sox were swept in their most recent three-games series against the White Sox and have now lost five straight games. The offense has struggled all season and have scored just 10 runs during their five-game losing streak. The bullpen is playing just as poorly, allowing 28 runs over the same span. Right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock is scheduled to get the start on Tuesday. Whitlock is 1-1 in seven games this season with an ERA of 1.25 and has given up 11 hits, three earned runs, and struck out 29 batters in 21.2 innings.

The Braves are currently second in the NL East, six games behind the Mets for first place. Atlanta is coming off a three-game series against the Brewers and won two of the three games. Both the offense and bullpen have been inconsistent this season, with two-games being their longest winning streak. The right-hander Kyle Wright is expected to take the mound on Tuesday. Wright is 3-1 in five games this season with an ERA of 1.74 and has given up 23 hits, six earned runs, and struck out 37 batters in 31.0 innings of work.

I’m not crazy about picking a side in this one. Boston has lost their last five while Atlanta is on a two-game winning streak, but have not won more than two games in a row this season. I think the under is the play here. Kyle Wright has looked great this season and should be able to keep Boston’s runs to a minimum. Expect to see some offensive production from the Braves, but not enough to push the total over. Backing the under eight runs here.

Boston Red Sox Betting Analysis

The Red Sox cannot seem to get anything going this season and have gone 10-19 SU, 14-15 ATS, and have an O/U record of 8-20-1. The total has gone under in 14 of Boston’s last 19 games. Going against this trend, the total has gone over in their last six games when playing on the road against Atlanta. The Red Sox are 0-5 SU in their last five games, but 5-1 SU in their last six games against Atlanta.

With only 10 wins on the season, it’s no surprise that Boston has not been hitting the ball well. As a team the Red Sox have a batting average of .228 (20th), on base percentage of .279 (28th), slugging percentage of .342 (25th), and have scored 95 runs (27th). The shortstop Xander Bogaerts has been the team’s best hitter with a batting average of .343 (37-108), two home runs, and 10 RBIs. Third baseman Rafael Devers brings some power to the lineup with a batting average of .308 (37-120), four home runs, and 11 RBIs.

Boston’s bullpen is on par with the offense in terms of production. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .225 (12th), have an ERA of 3.71 (18th), and have given up 118 runs (19th). Right-handed pitcher Garrett Whitlock is scheduled to get the start on Tuesday. Whitlock is 1-1 in seven games this season with an ERA of 1.25 and has given up 11 hits, three earned runs, and struck out 29 batters in 21.2 innings. In two games against the Braves last season, Whitlock gave up two hits, three earned runs, and struck out four batters in 3.1 innings of work.

Atlanta Braves Betting Analysis

After winning back-to-back games against Milwaukee, the Braves are 14-16 SU, 14-16 ATS, and have an O/U record of 16-13-1. The total has gone over in six of Atlanta’s last eight games. Following this trend, the total has gone over in eight of their last nine games against Boston. Atlanta is 4-2 SU in their last six games at home and 8-8 SU at home this season.

Atlanta has put up 12 runs in their last two games, but have had trouble finding consistency this season. As a team the Braves have a batting average of .226 (21st), on base percentage of .301 (20th), slugging percentage of .394 (8th), and have scored 122 runs (12th). The third baseman Austin Riley has been Atlanta’s most productive hitter with a batting average of .243 (27-111), seven home runs, and 14 RBIs. Second baseman Ozzie Albies is also having a decent season with a batting average of .231 (27-117), six home runs, and 13 RBIs.

The Brave's bullpen has been playing a bit better as of late, holding opponents to three runs or less in four of their last five games. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .228 (15th), have an ERA of 3.97 (21st), and have given up 125 runs (25th). The right-hander Kyle Wright is expected to take the mound on Tuesday. Wright is 3-1 in five games this season with an ERA of 1.74 and has given up 23 hits, six earned runs, and struck out 37 batters in 31.0 innings of work. Wright last pitched against Boston in 2020 and gave up two hits, two earned runs, and struck out four batters in 6.2 innings.

Key Players to Watch

  • BOS: Rafael Devers - 3B (Last Game: 3-4, R)
  • BOS: Xander Bogaerts - SS (Last Game: 2-4, R)
  • ATL: Ronald Acuna, Jr. - DH (Last Game: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI, BB)
  • ATL: Matt Olson - 1B (Last Game: 1-5, 2B, 2 RBI)

Probable Pitchers

  • BOS: Garrett Whitlock - RHP (1-1, 1.25 ERA, 29 K, 0.69 WHIP)
  • ATL: Kyle Wright - RHP (3-1, 1.74 ERA, 37 K, 0.97 WHIP)

Boston Red Sox vs. Atlanta Braves Betting Conclusion

The Red Sox will look to snap a five-game losing streak on Tuesday, while Atlanta will look to win three straight for the first time this season. I like the total to go under in this matchup. Boston will struggle to get much going with Kyle Wright taking the mound for the Braves. We should see some offensive production from Atlanta, but not enough to push the total over. Backing the under in this one.
