Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Predictions

The Phillies enter Saturday’s matchup in second place of the NL East, six and a half games behind the New York Mets for first place. Philadelphia managed to win game one of this series 9-7, but have lost six of their last 10 games. The bats have been solid for the Phillies this season, averaging 4.6 runs per game. The bullpen has not been great by any means, allowing opponents 3.97 runs per game. The left-hander Ranger Suarez is scheduled to start on Saturday. Suarez is 3-1 in six games this season with an ERA of 3.68 and has given up 32 hits, 12 earned runs, and struck out 22 batters in 29.1 innings.

The Dodgers are currently first in the NL West with a one game lead over the San Diego Padres. Los Angeles has played great baseball this season, but have lost three of their last four games. The Dodgers offense has been on fire this season, averaging 5.2 runs per game. Left-handed pitcher Julio Urias is expected to take the mound Saturday. Urias is 2-2 in six games this season with ERA of 2.10 and has given up 25 hits, seven earned runs, and struck out 23 batters in 30 innings of work.

I like the total to go under in this matchup. Game one was a slugfest, but I wouldn’t expect that the rest of the series. Expect Urias and Suarez to go around 6.0 innings and for the bullpen to decide the game. Backing the under here.

Philadelphia Phillies Betting Analysis

Prior to the results of Friday night’s game, the Phillies are 15-17 SU, 15-17 ATS, and have an O/U record of 16-14-2. The total has gone over in four of their last five games on the road. Going against this trend, the total has gone under in five of the Phillies last six games when playing on the road against Los Angeles. Philadelphia is 4-2 SU in their last six games and 6-8 SU on the road this season.

Despite their record, the Phillies have been hitting the ball well this season. As a team Philadelphia has a batting average of .252 (5th), on base percentage of .314 (13th), slugging percentage of .421 (2nd), and have scored 148 runs. Right fielder Bryce Harper is having another quality season with a batting average of .276 (34-123), seven home runs, and 22 RBIs. Second baseman Jean Segura has been productive with a batting average of .307 (31-101), five home runs, and 11 RBIs.

The Phillies bullpen has been the downfall of the team this season. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .241 (22nd), have an ERA of 3.97 (22nd), and have given up 136 runs (23rd). The left-hander Ranger Suarez is scheduled to start on Saturday. Suarez is 3-1 in six games this season with an ERA of 3.68 and has given up 32 hits, 12 earned runs, and struck out 22 batters in 29.1 innings. In 5.2 innings pitched against the Dodgers last season, Suarez gave up four hits, two earned runs, and struck out five batters.

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Analysis

After 30 games played, the Dodgers have gone 20-10 SU, 20-10 ATS, and have an O/U record of 11-17-2. The total has gone under in three of the Dodgers last five games. Following this trend, the total has gone under in five of their last six games when playing at home against the Phillies. Los Angeles is 7-3 SU in their last 10 games and 10-3 SU at home this season.

Los Angeles’ offense has been consistent this season. As a team the Dodgers have a batting average of .241 (9th), on base percentage of .327 (3rd), slugging percentage of .394 (8th), and have scored 156 runs (3rd). First baseman Freddie Freeman has been great in a Dodger uniform with a batting average of .310 (35-113), three home runs, and 13 RBIs. Shortstop Trea Turner is bringing in the runs with a batting average of .276 (32-116), one home run, and 21 RBIs.

The Dodgers’ bullpen ranks amongst the top of the MLB. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .201 (1st), have an ERA of 2.48 (1st), and have given up 80 runs (1st). Left-handed pitcher Julio Urias is expected to take the mound Saturday. Urias is 2-2 in six games this season with ERA of 2.10 and has given up 25 hits, seven earned runs, and struck out 23 batters in 30 innings of work. In his one outing against the Phillies last season, Urias went 5.2 innings with five strikeouts and gave up six hits, and two earned runs.

  • PHI: Rhys Hoskins - 1B (Last Game: 1-6, R)
  • LAD: Trea Turner - SS (Last Game: 1-5, RBI)
  • LAD: Freddie Freeman - 1B (Last Game: 1-3, R, 3 BB)

  • LAD: Julio Urias - LHP (2-2, 2.10 ERA, 23 K, 1.10 WHIP)

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Conclusion

Both Suarez and Urias should have solid outings Saturday. I don't expect a whole lot of runs to be scored in this one. The total has gone under in five of the last six between the teams and would expect that trend to continue. Backing the under in this one.
