Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Yankees Betting Predictions

The Los Angeles Angels enter this matchup second in the AL West standings, four games behind the Astros for first place. The Angels were most recently swept in a four-game series against Toronto and have now lost nine of their last 12 games. The offense has remained solid, averaging 4.79 runs per game and have scored five runs or more in six of their last seven. The bullpen has been the primary reason for the slump, giving up six or more runs in seven of their last 12 games. Right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to start Tuesday. Syndergaard is 4-2 in seven games this season with an ERA of 3.08 and has given up 33 hits, 13 earned runs, and struck out 27 batters in 38.0 innings.

The New York Yankees are currently first in the AL East with a four and half-game lead over the second place Tampa Bay Rays. New York has been dealing with injuries/COVID, but have still managed to go 5-5 SU in their last 10 games. The offense has averaged just 3.3 runs per game over that span, compared to their season average of 4.5 runs per game. The bullpen remains consistent and have thrown two shutouts in their last five games. The left-hander Jordan Montgomery is expected to take the mound Tuesday. Montgomery is 0-1 in nine games this season with an ERA of 3.30 and has given up 41 hits, 17 earned runs, and struck out 37 batters in 46.1 innings.

I like the value in the Angels moneyline in game-one. Los Angeles’ bullpen is struggling bad as of late, but Syndergaard has shown he can give them seven to eight innings if need be. The Yankees will be without Josh Donaldson (shoulder) and Giancarlo Stanton (ankle) who have a combined 16 home runs and 50 RBIs on the season. Los Angeles’ offense is at full strength and should be able to do enough damage against Montgomery to get a win here. Backing Los Angeles in this matchup.

Los Angeles Angels Betting Analysis

Having lost nine of their last 12 games the Angels are now 27-22 SU, 25-24 ATS, and have an O/U record of 24-21-4. The total has gone over in four of the Angels last five road games. Following this trend, the total has gone over in seven of their last nine when facing an opponent from the AL East. The Angels are 6-14 SU in their last 20 road games against the Yankees. Los Angeles is 12-9 SU on the road this season and 3-6 SU when playing as the underdog.

The Angels offensive continues to be great this season. As a team Los Angeles has a batting average of .251 (8th), on base percentage of .322 (6th), slugging percentage of .426 (2nd), and have scored 235 runs (4th). Center fielder Mike Trout is having another excellent season with a batting average of .310 (49-158), 13 home runs, and 28 RBIs. Shohei Ohtani is also hitting the ball well with a batting average of .249 (46-185), 11 home runs, and a team high 32 RBIs.

Los Angeles’ bullpen gave up 27 runs to Toronto in their most recent four-game series. On the season they are allowing opponents a batting average of .221 (T-6th), have a WHIP of 1.15 (6th), and have an ERA of 3.68 (11th). Right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to start Tuesday. Syndergaard is 4-2 in seven games this season with an ERA of 3.08 and has given up 33 hits, 13 earned runs, and struck out 27 batters in 38.0 innings.  Syndergaard most recently faced the Rangers on May 24th and struck out five batters in 8.0 innings while giving up four hits and one run.

New York Yankees Betting Analysis

With the second-best record in baseball the Yankees are 33-15 SU, 24-24 ATS, and have an O/U record of 20-27-1. The total has gone under in four of New York’s last five games. Going against this trend, the total has gone over in four of their last six when playing the Angels. New York is 17-7 SU at home this season and 30-14 SU when playing as the favorite.

The Yankees bats have been a bit slow as of late, mostly due to Josh Donaldson (shoulder) and Giancarlo Stanton (ankle) still being on the 10-day injured list. On the season the Yankees have a batting average of .237 (15th), on base percentage of .314 (12th), slugging percentage of .406 (5th), and have scored 220 runs (9th). Right fielder Aaron Judge remains healthy and has a batting average of .309 (54-175), 18 home runs, and 37 RBIs. The first baseman Anthony Rizzo has been bringing in the runs as well with a batting average of .213 (36-169), 11 home runs, and 28 RBIs.

New York’s bullpen has kept them afloat with a few key members of their offense being out. As a team they are allowing opponents a batting average of .217 (3rd), have a WHIP (1.08 (2nd), and have an ERA of 2.95 (3rd). The left-hander Jordan Montgomery is expected to take the mound Tuesday. Montgomery is 0-1 in nine games this season with an ERA of 3.30 and has given up 41 hits, 17 earned runs, and struck out 37 batters in 46.1 innings. Montgomery most recently pitched against Baltimore on May 24th, striking out five batters in 6.0 innings while giving up four hits and two runs.

Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Yankees Betting Conclusion

It’ tough to bet against the Yankees when their opponent has lost five straight games, but I think this is the perfect matchup for the Angels to get back on track. Syndergaard has been solid this season and should be able to have a big day with Donaldson and Stanton out of the lineup. Also look for Los Angeles to have their bats working once again and put this one out of reach early. Backing the Angels moneyline in this one.
