The new rules may be causing issues for both Trae Young and James Harden, but the box scores aren’t reflecting it. Both are coming off improved performances as the Nets host the Hawks 7:30 p.m. ET Wednesday night on ESPN.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Brooklyn Nets Predictions

De’Andre Hunter in the rotation – from last year. But Young’s struggles may be in the rear-view as he dropped 26 in a win most recently over the Wizards.

Young is the key here as the Nets are still dealing with life without Kyrie Irving and watching Harden adjust to new rules. The Hawks depth – especially up front – should keep them in the game. Unfortunately, a last-second bucket or final possession by Kevin Durant will be the difference for the Nets.

James Harden had a triple-double as the Nets cruised by the Pistons and looked comfortable in a scoring role. Unlike Young, Harden still seems like he’s adjusting and can’t break out with a dominating scoring performance.

Kevin Durant will have to pick up the slack, with some additional help from Joe Harris and Blake Griffin – although it’s mostly Durant. He’s the most difficult matchup in the NBA and might explode on Atlanta. The Hawks will do everything else fine, but in the end be stung by Durant.

The pacing in this game is opposite for each team. Brooklyn pushes the ball as much as nearly any team in the league – sixth overall in pacing – and the Hawks are 29th in the NBA in pace. The Hawks want to slow this game down, but Durant is such a problem in the half court.

John Collins and Clint Capela will deal with his inside presence, but it’s on Hunter to slow down Durant on the wing. Young is going to need to outscore Durant and whatever Harden brings to the table. Not easy for Brooklyn to pull away by any means, but it’s an even matchup overall.

The Hawks will have to also contest with a revived Lamarcus Aldridge off the bench. As deep as Atlanta is, the Nets can go down their bench with effectiveness. The Hawks get over on teams with strong second-unit play from guys like Kevin Huerter, Lou Williams, and Danilo Gallinari. That is countered with Nic Claxton, Patty Mills, and Aldridge. The game sets up for a tight but flowing game with the Nets getting the better of the pacing and increasing the overall scoring.

Young is the heart of this offense despite any issues with the new rules, averaging 22.9 PPG and 9.4 APG. Young is still shooting 43% from the floor. Cam Reddish is the team’s second-leading scorer with 16 a night, then Collins adds 15.4 PPG. Collins adds 9.7 RPG, second only to Capela’s 10.7 RPG. Hunter’s return to the lineup adds another 10.7 PPG for a Hawks team averaging just under 108 points per-game. Atlanta grabs 50.3 RPG as a team, 4 full more per-night than the Nets at 46 RPG.

Brooklyn Nets Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 4-3
  • ATS: 3-4
  • O/U: 0-7

Durant is dominating the stat sheet and opposing teams, scoring 27.7 PPG. He’s adding 8.9 RPG and 5.3 APG. Harden leads the team with 8.6 APG and is bouncing back at 18.6 PPG and 7.6 RPG. Aldridge is trending upwards, the third leading scorer on the team with 12.7 PPG.

The Nets still get 11 PPG from Joe Harris and are seeing an increase off the bench from Patty Mills – adding 10.6 PPG. The team itself isn’t scoring a ton of points despite their fast pacing on the floor. The team averages only 104.6 PPG but is dishing out a team average of 22.4 APG.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Brooklyn Nets Betting Conclusion

Both teams are under .500 ATS at 3-4 on the year. What’s most interesting about this is the Nets have yet to hit an over this season – 0-7 to the O/U. That means they are also 0-5 to the O/U at home, something that Atlanta plays right into with their slower pacing.

The best bet in this game is taking the under, based on the trends of the Nets and the slower tempo from the Hawks. Atlanta will keep this game close, and if you can get them at 3+ it’s worth a look but expect this to feel like a playoff game with a slower pace overall. Atlanta is 1-3 to the O/U on the road.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Brooklyn Nets Betting Trends

  • Brooklyn has gone UNDER the point total in seven straight games.
  • Atlanta has failed to cover the spread in four straight road games.
