Miami Heat vs. Utah Jazz Predictions

Things have not been great lately for the Miami Heat – the latest loss coming at the hands of the Clippers. The biggest question heading into the game is if Jimmy Butler plays through an ankle injury. He did miss the team’s last game against the Clippers. The road trip continues in Utah where Miami’s backcourt will be tested once again. Kyle Lowry looks like he’s back from his ankle injury, and Bam Adebayo has cemented himself as one of the top bigs in the league. But Miami will fall just short – despite covering the number. The Heat have gone through cold spells they haven’t seen at the start of the season, it’s going to play a factor in this game Saturday night.

It’s not all roses for Utah either, they come into this game losers of three of their last four and have seen scoring droughts of their own. This game has a little revenge in the air for Utah, who lost on November 6th in Miami 118-115. Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell are too much for Lowry and Miami. The matchup up front should be must-watch with Bam taking on Rudy Gobert. Miami without Butler is an automatic loss, but they did cover the last line against the Clippers without him. The Jazz will bounce back from recent struggles and avenge an earlier loss.

Miami’s struggles can be pinpointed to injury and relying too much on two players. The rotation has looked off and without an anchor like Butler on the floor, the team falls apart. They are still talented and still play great defense, it’s the top-heavy scoring they rely on that’s the major issue. So much comes down to Butler – for better or worse – his last full game saw a 31-8-5 stat line. Miami isn’t awful without him, Tyler Herro has picked up a ton of action off the bench as the second-leading scorer on the team. We’ve seen this before, where even if one guy on Miami has a night, it’s still not enough to overcome a better offense.

The Jazz most recent loss came at the expense of a meltdown near the end of the game. Three players were ejected, and they wound up losing the game. Indiana also shot over 60 percent from the field, something Miami won’t do Saturday night. The last time these two teams played it was close – down to the wire. This time in Utah, with the possibility of Butler being out, expect the Jazz to return the favor – and then some. Utah is still getting quality minutes out of guys like Royce O’Neale and Jordan Clarkson – despite Clarkson struggling from the floor.

The Heat still have a top-5 offense even though they’ve gone from two to four most recently. They are led by Butler and his 23.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 5.1 APG all while shooting just under 53 percent from the floor. Herro averages 21.1 PPG and 5.4 RPG.

Adebayo has inserted himself in the top big conversation as he averages 20.3 PPG, 11.5 RPG, and 7.3 APG while shooting over 51 percent. Lowry has returned from his ankle injury and is starting to bump up his numbers.Duncan Robinson is a sneaky 10 PPG off the bench.

Utah Jazz Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 8-4

Utah sees most of the production from Mitchell – one of the most dynamic PGs in a league of dynamic guards. He’s at just under 26 PPG, adding 4.3 RPG and 5.2 APG. Bojan Bogdanovic is the team’s second-leading scorer with 16.3 PPG.

Gobert continues to dominate the boards averaging 15 PPG to his 15.5 RPG, he’s also shooting 71.8 percent. Mike Conley and Jordan Clarkson also average double-figures, each in the 14 PPG range.

Miami Heat vs. Utah Jazz Head-to-Head

Key Players to Watch

  • MIA: Jimmy Butler - SF (23.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.1 apg)
  • MIA: Tyler Herro - PG (21.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg)
  • UTA: Donovan Mitchell - SG (25.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 5.2 apg)
  • UTA: Rudy Gobert - C (15 ppg, 15.5 rpg)

Miami Heat vs. Utah Jazz Betting Conclusion

Miami is still 8-4 ATS on the year, good enough for 2nd overall in the league. They are most likely without Butler, but Herro should have no problem taking up scoring slack. The battle for boards may be the difference here, as both Bam and Gobert are two of the best glass cleaners in the NBA.

Probably a good idea to look at rebounding props for both centers and go over any number at or below their season average. Utah gets the win, but 7.5 is still a lot to cover for a team that’s struggling like Miami – just without the injuries.
