DENVER NUGGETS vs. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS BETTING PREDICTION

The Warriors rode quite the rollercoaster throughout last year, as Golden State opened with a red-hot 41-13 run before countering their successes with a head-scratching 12-16 skid to close the regular season. However, Golden State snapped out of its funk once the playoffs started, as the Warriors cruised their fourth NBA title in the last eight years with an impressive postseason record of 18-6, with none of their series reaching a seventh game, and just two of them reaching a sixth game.

The Nuggets, on the other hand, posted an inspired campaign despite Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. missing most of the season, as Murray missed the entire season with an ACL injury and Porter Jr. participated in just nine contests due to a back injury he suffered in early November. However, the Nuggets still finished sixth in the West with a record of 48-34, which was a pretty impressive feat for a squad in the absence of its secondary and tertiary scoring options.

I’ll back Denver here, as Nuggets went 3-1 in four regular-season contests against Golden State last year, despite the absences of Murray and Porter Jr. And while I still believe the Warriors are the better team in this matchup, I think this could be an excellent bounce back spot for Denver after posting an ugly loss to Utah on opening night.

Score Prediction: Nuggets 114, Warriors 110
Best Bet: Nuggets +5.5 (-110)

DENVER NUGGETS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Nuggets earned a Top 3 seed in the West in three straight seasons prior to last year, however, last year’s sixth place finish was arguably the most impressive of that timeframe, as Denver’s season appeared to be doomed from the early stages following injuries to Murray and Porter Jr., but to the majority’s surprise, Nikola Jokic and the rest of Denver’s supporting cast still cruised to the postseason while successfully dodging the Play-In Tournament.

Whenever the Nuggets rank near the top of the totem pole in the West, I typically worry about their lack of perimeter threats heading into matchups against sharp shooting squads like the Warriors. However they’ve consistently proven capable of beating this team in the regular season, so with Denver’s second and third best players back on the floor, I think the Nuggets actually have a solid chance of winning this game outright.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS BETTING ANALYSIS

When healthy, Golden State is the most dangerous team in the West, and there’s no getting around it. No matter what scenario is presented, the Warriors almost always have a counter up their sleeve. Obviously, they can outshoot all the powerhouse offensive teams like the Bucks and Nets, but they also thrive against blue collar defensive squads like the Heat and Celtics.

The NBA is a make-or-miss league at its core, and the Warriors are the best in the league at making shots. However, the NBA season is also a marathon, and a lot can be determined by overall health status and who’s clicking at the right time. That said, the Warriors have been to six of the last eight NBA Finals, and Klay Thompson suffered season-ending injuries both years they fell short during that timeframe. So, it’s tough to argue against Golden State getting tagged as the favorite to win the West at +300.
