DALLAS MAVERICKS vs. NEW ORLEANS PELICANS BETTING PREDICTION

The Mavericks finished fourth in the West with a record of 52-30 last season, marking Dallas’ best regular season campaign since their title winning squad back in 2010-11, and their trip to the conference finals marks their deepest playoff run during that span as well. So, it’s safe to say the Mavericks had lofty expectations entering the season, but so far, they’ve lived up to them for the most part, as Dallas opened with a hard-fought 107-105 road loss to Phoenix, and then bounced back with a triumphant 137-96 home win over Memphis.

The Pelicans, on the other hand, were behind the 8-ball from the start last year, as Zion Williamson was forced to miss the entire season with a foot injury, which in turn, never really allowed them to settle into a rhythm at the either end of the floor, as New Orleans finished ninth in the West with a record of 36-46, while ranking 19th in offensive rating and 20th in defensive rating (112 ORtg, 113 DRtg). However, they flipped the script at both ends in their first three games of this season, as the Pelicans averaged 125 PPG on 48% FG and ranked 11th in the league in defensive rating across a 2-1 split to open (108.8 DRtg), with their only loss coming a thrilling seesaw battle against Utah (L, 122-121).

I’ll back the Mavs to cover here, as the Pelicans looked excellent in their first three games of the season, especially at the offensive end, but with Zion and Brandon Ingram both dealing with injuries ahead of Tuesday’s contest, I think we’ll see Dallas post a comfortable road win in this matchup.

Score Prediction: Mavericks 116, Pelicans 108

DALLAS MAVERICKS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Mavericks earned the fourth seed in the West with a record of 52-30 last season, which finished 12 games behind Phoenix for the top seed in the conference, however, the second and third seeds both sat within striking distance, as Memphis finished the year 56-26 and Golden State finished 53-29.

It wasn’t always pretty for the Mavs, as Dallas finished the year ranked 24th in scoring and 19th in team shooting percentage at the offensive end (108 PPG, 46% FG). However, when you also surrender less than 105 PPG and rank sixth in the league in defensive rating (109.4 DRtg), you can still be very successful in this league. But make no mistake, the Mavs are still capable of holding their own in a shootout, and they reminded us of that again by racking up 137 PTS on 50% FG in a blowout win over the Grizzlies this past Saturday.

NEW ORLEANS PELICANS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Pelicans finished ninth in the West with a record of 36-46 last season, however, thanks to the Play-In Tournament, New Orleans earned the eighth seed in the conference by posting tough wins over the Spurs and Clippers, and surprisingly, they also put up a decent fight in a 4-2 loss to the top-seeded Suns in the opening round of the playoffs, all in the absence of Williamson.

So, in theory, the Pelicans should be much better with Williamson back in action, and they looked great in their first three games of the season, however, availability has been a major issue for this team the last few years, and it appears this season will be no different, highlighted by Ingram and Williamson both landing on the injury report just three games into their campaign.
