PHILADELPHIA 76ERS vs. MILWAUKEE BUCKS BETTING PREDICTION

With just a handful of games left to play in the regular season, the Bucks and Celtics are neck-and-neck for the top spot in the Eastern Conference, while the Sixers currently reside in the third slot, trailing the first-placed Bucks by four-games ahead of this one.

In years past, we’ve seen some of the top teams in the East jockey for position based on potential first-round matchup due to relatively dangerous opponents like the Nets and Celtics looming near the 7th and 8th spots, leading to a few sly attempts at dodging a particular foe.

However, along with some minor exceptions, pretty much everything has shaken out by design in the East this year, with the Heat, Hawks, Raptors, and Bulls currently occupying Play-In Tournament spots; all squads that don’t quite seem to pose as a legitimate threat to top shelf contenders at the moment, and quite frankly, earning homecourt advantage in latter series should be considered top priority in today’s NBA. So, long story short, don’t expect a phoned-in effort from these squads.

The Sixers’ chances of claiming the top seed in the conference are very slim, however, there’s still a glimmer of hope that they might be able to catch the Celtics, who’s been in a bit of a funk lately, and homecourt advantage in a series against Boston would mean the world to a Philly’ squad that has become notorious for their struggles against the C’s.

In their latest outing, the Bucks got absolutely demolished by Boston, as the Celtics went off for 140 points on 56% from the field and 51% from long-range in a 41-point victory at Fiserv Forum, which was quite jarring for a squad that ranks 3rd in defensive rating and 2nd in opponent field goal percentage (111.5 DRtg, 45% FG), on top of owning an impressive record of 30-8 on their home floor.

The Sixers have arguably been the best team in basketball since mid-December, currently boasting a record of 39-14 in their last 53 games, while pacing the entire league in net rating by a comfortable margin during that span at +6.1, with the only teams rivalling that number being the Celtics (+5.8 NetRtg), Grizzlies (+5.6 NetRtg), and Cavaliers (+5.0 NetRtg).

This Sixers’ team is much better on the road than they’ve been in years past, but they enter Sunday having dropped three straight road games to the Warriors, Suns, and Nuggets, which is nothing to be ashamed of, but it certainly doesn’t bode well for them as they hit the road again to face the squad with the best record in the NBA.

The Bucks were truly embarrassed on their homefloor on Thursday night, and I have to imagine that the sting of their latest defeat weighs heavily on the mind ahead of this contest. The Sixers appear to be running into a buzzsaw on the road here. Back Milwaukee in this one.
