Week 3 of regular-season NFL action will conclude with a Monday Night Football matchup between a pair of longtime NFC East rivals – as Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles will square off with Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys at 8:15 E.T. on ESPN.

After blowing out Atlanta to open the year (W, 32-7), Hurts and the new-look Eagles’ offense appeared to be flying high as they traveled back to the City of Brotherly Love for their second matchup of the season against San Francisco.

Things didn’t unravel quite as accordingly during their sloppy Week 2 performance against the Niners though (L, 17-11), as the Eagles had six points taken off the board early due to Jalen Reagor stepping out of bounds on a long touchdown catch – and they also had a short field goal blocked immediately following a 91-yard reception by Quez Watkins.

On the other hand, Dallas split a pair of tightly contested road matchups to start the new season, as the Cowboys dropped their opener in Tampa Bay on a last-second field goal by Ryan Succop (L, 31-29) – and then flipped the script in Los Angeles following week, as Greg Zuerlein drilled a 56-yard game-winner to seal a narrow victory over the Chargers in Week 2 (W, 20-17).

I’ll take the over here, as the Eagles shouldn’t have too much trouble finding success against a Cowboys defense that ranked 28th in scoring and 23rd in overall yardage last year (29.6 PPG, 386.4 YPG) – while Dallas looked sharp against a pair of solid defenses to open the season (24.5 PPG, 435 YPG).

The biggest knock on the Eagles heading into Week 2 is the fact Dallas stands as the most dynamic offensive unit they have faced under their new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon – and Philadelphia is now short-handed without Pro-Bowl DE Brandon Graham (Achilles).

That being said, Philadelphia’s defense still courageously stood its ground last week, as the Eagles ended up surrendering just 17 points during their loss to San Francisco – currently ranking the Birds’ defense second in the league in scoring (11.5 PPG).

The Cowboys were incredibly fortunate to escape L. A. with a victory last week, as Chargers’ second-year QB Justin Herbert carved up Dallas for 338 yards on 76% completions through the air – yet only generated 17 points thanks to a pair of costly interceptions from the young signal-caller.

Dallas’ defensive scoring numbers don’t look too shabby right now, especially after holding the Chargers under 20 points last week (24 PPG) – but don’t let that fool you, as the Cowboys’ defense still ranks 31st against the pass across their first two games of the year (346 YPG).

After knocking off the Chargers in dramatic fashion last week, the Cowboys return to Jerry’s World as a three-point favorite over the visiting Eagles in Week 3 – marking the first time Dallas has been favored all season.

The Cowboys’ defense is just too flimsy for me to lay points in this matchup, as I truly believe Philadelphia will move the ball somewhat easily against Dallas this week – which is why I’m also backing Hurts to throw at least two touchdown passes at plus odds in Monday’s event.
