Arizona Cardinals vs. Cleveland Browns Predictions

The Cardinals are coming off a 17-10 win against the San Francisco 49ers last weekend, squeaking out a cover as 6-point favorites. It was easily the lowest scoring game of the season for Kyler Murray and the offense, but it was also the best showing for a defensive unit which had allowed 24.0 PPG across the previous three outings.

The Browns left Los Angeles with an unsatisfying 47-42 loss against the Chargers, blowing a late lead. While Browns fans in the 'Twitterverse', for whatever reason, have been attacking QB Baker Mayfieldacross the past two games, the last time I checked, No. 6 was attempting to make tackles. The offense didn’t have any turnovers. And NFL teams were 443-0 when scoring 40 or more points with no turnovers prior to Cleveland’s loss.

The Cardinals travel to the Eastern Time Zone to face an angry Browns team in what should be a great game in Sunday’s late window.

Arizona Cardinals Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 5-0
  • ATS: 4-1
  • O/U: 2-3
  • ATS - Home: 1-1
  • ATS - Away: 3-0

The Cardinals are a perfect 5-for-5 so far, including three wins and covers on the road this season. That includes it’s only trip to the Eastern Time Zone, a 31-19 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Under is also 2-0 in Arizona’s two trips east of the Mississippi, as it won 38-13 in Tennessee in the regular season opener.

Arizona has been fire on offense, ranking sixth in the NFL in total yards per game (413.2), seventh in the passing yards per game (285.2), eighth in rushing yards per game (128.0) and fourth in points per game (31.4).

On the defensive side of the football, the Cardinals rank 13th in total yards per game (353.4), eighth in passing yards per game (214.4) and sixth in points per game (19.0). If the Cards have an Achilles’ heel, it’s against the run, as they have allowed 139.0 yards per game on the ground to rank 28th . That’s bad news against a run-heavy offense like the Browns.

Arizona has covered four of its past five on the road, while going 10-3-2 ATS in the past 15 on the road as an underdog. It is 1-5 in the previous six against teams with a winning overall mark.

Cleveland Browns Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 3-2
  • ATS: 3-2
  • O/U: 3-2
  • ATS - Home: 1-1
  • ATS - Away: 2-1

The good news is that the Browns exploded for a season-high 42 points last week. The bad news is that they allowed a season-high 47 points after yielding just 13 points in the previous two outings.

The Browns are 2-0 SU/1-1 ATS in two outings at home, averaging 28.5 PPG while allowing 13.5 PPG.

Like Arizona, Cleveland has a tremendous offense, allowing 417.6 totals per game to rank fifth in the league. The pass game is simply pedestrian, ranking 25th with just 230.0 yards per game. But they’re the No. 1 rushing team with 187.6 yards per game on the ground. The Browns are also seventh with 28.4 PPG.

On defense, Cleveland ranks fourth in the NFL with just 298.8 yards per game, even after last week’s debacle, and it’s 11th against the pass with 223.2 yards per game. On the ground, Cleveland has locked it down, allowing just 75.6 yards per game, so it could be a long day for RBs James Conner and Chase Edmonds. The Browns allow just 22.8 PPG to rank 11th in the league.

The point total has failed to go UNDER in three straight games played between the Browns and the Cardinals. (AP)

Arizona Cardinals vs. Cleveland Browns Betting Conclusion

This is going to be an interesting game. When the dust clears on the shores of Lake Erie, the Cardinals are going to take their first L of the season, and the announcers will make their stupid comments about the 1972 Miami Dolphins popping the corks, as their undefeated season record is safe for one more season.

The Cardinals looked very mortal last week when facing a strong pass rush, and they’ll face one of the better pass rushes in the NFL with DE Myles Garrett, and perhaps even DE Jadeveon Clowney, if he can return from injury. Arizona might be looking to go up top, as the defensive backs for Cleveland are a little banged up.

This won’t be a Madden-like game on rookie settings like last weekend’s Browns-Bolts shootout, but we’ll have a good amount of points on the board. I think it will be a one-score game, with Cleveland scratching out a win. If not, search Mayfield on Twitter Monday, and get your popcorn ready.
