Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets Predictions

The two worst teams in the AFC East will meet for the first time this season on Sunday. The New York Jets will play host to the Miami Dolphins, and some fans of both teams are hoping their side loses to better their pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Miami is a slight road favorite over last week’s upset over Baltimore, but the Jets have knocked off two potential playoff teams at home this season.

Joe Flacco will make his first start in nearly a year on Sunday. Flacco was signed on October 25, and he saw his first action in last week’s blowout loss to Buffalo. He completed all three of his passes and threw for a touchdown in garbage time of that game, but he will find it much more difficult to best a first-team defense this weekend.

Miami Dolphins Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 3-7
  • ATS: 4-5-1
  • O/U: 4-6
  • ATS - Home: 2-3
  • ATS - Away: 2-2-1

Tua Tagovailoa is set to start under center for the Dolphins despite his finger injury. Tagovailoa was replaced by Jacoby Brissett last week, but he was cleared by the medical staff to line up against the Jets. He has had some moments, and he hasn’t made a lot of mistakes.

The Dolphins don’t run the ball particularly well. Myles Gaskin is averaging just 3.4 YPC, and Salvon Ahmed is only able to muster 2.7 YPC. That will put pressure on these receivers to get open for Tagovailoa.

Jaylen Waddle has had a solid rookie season for Miami. Waddle has 60 receptions for 557 yards and three touchdowns, but he hasn’t been able to stretch the field like the team wants in the passing game. DeVante Parker is going to miss this game due to injury, so tight end Mike Gesicki is going to be the one big play threat.

Miami hasn’t been bad on defense and did a good job shutting down Lamar Jackson and Baltimore last Thursday. However, Christian Wilkins might not be able to play this week due to injury. This secondary should be much better than we have seen as Xavien Howard and Byron Jones are both well-paid for their efforts.

New York Jets Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 2-7
  • ATS: 2-7
  • O/U: 6-3
  • ATS - Home: 2-2
  • ATS - Away: 0-5

It was somewhat surprising to see Flacco announced as the starter over Mike White. White was dreadful in the loss to the Bills last week though, throwing four interceptions. Flacco has experience with this offense, but he wasn’t great last season in the Big Apple. He completed just 55.2% of his passes for 6.4 YPA with six touchdowns and three interceptions in five games.

Corey Davis is the top receiver on the roster, but we could see Jamison Crowder play more of a factor due to his familiarity with Flacco. Denzel Mims is still out due to injury, and the offensive line continues to be a mess with 2020 first-round pick Mekhi Becton on injured reserve. Becton might finally be able to return next week though.

Michael Carter is the skill position player to watch on the Jets. He leads the team in rushing, and he is the second leading receiver. Thomas is only averaging 3.6 YPC and 9.9 YPR though.

The Jets were supposed to be better on defense with Robert Saleh as the new head coach. However, Gang Green ranks dead last in total defense (417.1 YPG), scoring defense (32.9 PPG), and yards per play (6.3 yards per play).

Miami has covered the spread in six straight games when facing New York. (AP)

Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets Betting Conclusion

It won’t be a pretty game, but Miami’s defense will lead the way in a road win over a division rival. Trust in Tua to get the job done as Miami continues to ride their current hot streak against a less-than-mediocre team.
