Washington Football Team vs. Dallas Cowboys Predictions

The Washington Football Team worked their way into position to challenge the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East, and they were in good shape for a potential run at a wild-card spot. After four straight wins and covers from Weeks 10 through 13, including a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Washington surged to 6-6 prior to a showdown with the Cowboys in Week 14. Dallas slapped them around early, building a 27-8 lead heading into the second half. A touchdown and a pick-six made things interesting down the stretch, but the Cowboys ended up holding on for the 27-20 victory and cover as 6.5-point favorites at most shops. The UNDER also connected, just hanging on as the Cowboys were driving late before electing to take a knee.

The Cowboys suffered a 36-33 loss in overtime against the Last Vegas Raiders on Thanksgiving Day, a third straight loss against AFC West Division foes. They'll be glad not to see any more of those teams. Getting back into the NFC, the Cowboys have ripped off three straight victories, all on the road, including a 21-6 win against the New York Giants last weekend, and the win over WFT. With the loss by the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night, the Cowboys officially have punched their ticket to the NFC playoffs, now they're just playing for seeding, with the No. 1 overall seed and a first-round bye still within reach.

Washington Football Team Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 6-8
  • ATS: 5-8-1
  • O/U: 6-8
  • ATS - Away: 3-3-1

Washington comes in on the short week, as COVID issues within the team forced them to move its game from Sunday to Tuesday in Philadelphia. The team signed QB Garrett Gilbert off the practice squad of the New England Patriots, and within three days he was under center in Philadelphia for his second NFL start. He acquitted himself well, although WFT ended up suffering the loss. The game ended up as a cover at must shops with the 10-point loss. WFT is an impressive 4-1-1 ATS across the past six games overall, including 2-0-1 ATS in the past three games on the road.

WFT's defense had allowed 15, 15, 21, 19 and 17 in a five-game span from Oct. 31 through Dec. 5, but they have allowed 27 in back-to-back games, as the defense looks to be getting a little bit tired. The OVER result against Philadelphia ended up snapping a 3-0 UNDER run. The UNDER is 7-2 across the past nine games overall for Washington, too.

Washington is 5-2 ATS in the past seven games against winning teams, while going 4-1-1 ATS in the past six as an underdog. However, WFT is also 0-3-1 ATS in the past four games inside the division.

Dallas Cowboys Betting Analysis

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 10-4
  • ATS: 11-3
  • O/U: 6-8
  • ATS - Home: 4-2

The Cowboys have rolled up a 3-0 SU/ATS mark across the past three games, while also hitting the UNDER in those outings. That includes the first win, a 27-20 victory in Washington.

Dallas has registered an 11-3 ATS mark across the past 14 games overall, while going 6-2 ATS in the previous eight games at home. In addition, the Cowboys have covered 20 of the past 28 games inside the division, while going 8-2 ATS in the past 10 games as a favorite.

For totals, the UNDER is 7-1 in the past eight games overall for Dallas, but the OVER is 7-2 in the past nine games at home, so something's gotta give here. The OVER is also 9-3 in the past 12 games as a home favorite, too, while going a perfect 6-0 in the past six meetings at home against Washington, and 9-3 in the past 12 meetings overall in this series.

Washington is 8-20-1 ATS in the past 29 games after a straight-up loss. (AP)

Washington Football Team vs. Dallas Cowboys Betting Conclusion

The good news for Washington is that they are getting a lot of players back from the reserve/COVID list, but the bad news is that they still have several key players either on the COVID list or injury report. QB Taylor Heinicke (knee) and RB Antonio Gibson (toe) are each question marks due to injury, and LB Cole Holcomb, who had the pick-six last time these teams met, is on the COVID list. Washington is in a lot worse of shape than they were when they played at home against the Cowboys two weeks ago, and they're coming in on a short week after playing Tuesday. Yet the line is basically the same as it was in Week 14. Take advantage, especially since Dallas is at home.

Dallas has won and covered three in a row, and they'll do it again here on its home field. The Cowboys will be keeping their foot on the gas trying to stay in position for a home playoff game, and they still have a shot at the No. 1 overall seed and a first-round bye if things break a certain way. Look for Dallas to put Washington out of its misery in this one.
