The Cowboys and Buccaneers will meet in Week 1 for a second straight season on Sunday night, and we should be in for quite the show if its anything like last year’s riveting 31-29 home win for the Bucs. Their previous 60-point shootout wasn’t exactly a fluke either, as the Cowboys’ offense went on to lead the entire league in scoring at 30.4 PPG, which barely edged Tampa Bay at 29.9 PPG.

Dallas finds itself shorthanded in the pass-catching department after trading Amari Cooper to Cleveland this offseason, which is compounded with the absence of Michael Gallup, who won’t suit up in Week 1 as he continues to recover from the ACL injury he suffered this past January. However, it’s tough to ignore the reigning NFC East champs as home underdogs in this spot, as Tom Brady has become notorious for his primetime struggles in the later stages of his career; and I expect Tampa Bay to experience some early growing pains with former DC Todd Bowles taking over head coaching duties this season.

Cowboys’ WR CeeDee Lamb exploded onto the scene in his sophomore campaign last year, as the 23-year-old wideout racked up 65+ receiving yards in six of his first seven contests for an average of 87 YPG; which included a monster seven-reception, 104-yard performance against Tampa Bay to kick things off in Week 1. However, Lamb fell off the wagon a bit during the back-half of the season, as he averaged just 4.1 REC on 51.4 YPG across his final 10 games of the year, which included a lackluster one-reception, 21-yard performance against San Francisco in the playoffs. I’ll back Lamb to get back on track in Sunday night’s matchup, as he saw a season-high 15 targets in his 100-yard performance against Tampa Bay in Week 1 last year, and that was also with Cooper and Gallup eating up 24 targets for 175 receiving yards on the evening, who won’t be factors this time around.

Cowboys’ TE Dalton Schultz had a relatively quiet start to last year, as he averaged just 4.2 receptions on 5.7 targets for 48.7 YPG through the first ten weeks of the season. However, Schultz adequately served as the security blanket Dak Prescott desperately needed down the homestretch, as he saw 5+ receptions on 7+ targets in six of the Cowboys’ last nine contests (5.2 REC, 6.8 TGT), which included a solid seven-reception, 89-yard performance against San Francisco in the playoffs. Schultz had a solid game against Tampa Bay in Week 1 last season, as he hauled in six-of-six targets for 45 YDS in a 31-29 shootout, which was fourth in the pecking order within the Cowboys’ receiving corps behind Cooper (17 TGT), Lamb (15 TGT), and Gallup (7 TGT); and he should ultimately slide up that totem pole as Prescott seeks familiar targets in Sunday’s matchup.
