Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints Picks, Predictions, Odds

The fourth Sunday of regular season NFL action will kick things off from London on Sunday morning with a compelling NFC matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints. Coverage begins from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at 9:30 a.m. ET on NFL Network.

MINNESOTA VIKINGS vs. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS BETTING PREDICTION

New Orleans jumped out to an encouraging start under newly promoted head coach Dennis Allen, as the Saints entered the fourth quarter of their Week 1 matchup trailing Atlanta 23-10, and still managed to escape with a narrow 27-26 road victory. However, things have gone south for New Orleans since then, as the Saints scored just 12 PPG across a pair of losses to Carolina and Tampa Bay in Weeks 2 and 3, resulting in a lackluster average of 17 PPG for the season thus far.

Minnesota, on the other hand, has been on quite the rollercoaster to start the season, as the Vikings averaged 25.5 PPG on 384 YPG across a pair of divisional wins over the Packers and Lions, and scored just seven points on 264 total yards in an ugly 24-7 loss to the Eagles.

I’ll back Minnesota here, as New Orleans has now scored 14 PTS or less and turned the ball over 3+ times in back-to-back losses, which doesn’t bode well heading into a neutral-site matchup against a Vikings squad that’s scored 23+ PTS on 370+ YDS in two-of-three contests to open the year.

Score Prediction: Vikings 24, Saints 17
Best Bet: Vikings -2.5 (-110)

MINNESOTA VIKINGS BETTING ANALYSIS

It’s been a tale of three very different performances for Minnesota to start the year, as the Vikings kicked things off with an impressive 23-7 win over the Packers in their season-opener, which was quickly negated by an ugly primetime loss to Philly in primetime in their second matchup.

However, Minnesota bounced back at home in Week 3, as the Vikings racked up 28 points on 373 total yards in en route to a hard-fought divisional win over Detroit this past Sunday. The Vikings’ defense wasn’t great in their last two matchups (24 PPG), but I still think they’re capable of holding down the fort against a Saints’ offense that’s scored 14 PTS or less in consecutive contests, especially if Jameis Winston continues his carelessness with the ball.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Saints posted a red-hot start with Jameis Winston under center last season, as New Orleans opened with a solid 5-2 run that included tough victories over the Packers, Patriots, and Buccaneers. However, Winston suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 8, and the Saints went 4-6 the rest of the way.

New Orleans is a much different squad in the aftermath of Sean Payton’s retirement, but they still have all the necessary pieces to develop a solid team. However, Winston and co. need to take much better care of the football, highlighted by the Saints turning the ball over nine times in their first three matchups of the season; and that type of turnover rate is typically a recipe for disaster.
