Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions Picks, Predictions, Odds
Sports Betting Expert
Week 9 of the NFL season will resume on Sunday afternoon with an NFC North tilt between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. Coverage begins from Ford Field in Detroit at 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX.
GREEN BAY PACKERS vs. DETROIT LIONS BETTING PREDICTION
The Packers have arguably been the biggest disappointment in the league so far this season, as Green Bay scored just 18.1 PPG and allowed 21.6 DPPG across a frustrating 3-5 start to the year, which includes head-scratching losses to the Giants, Jets, and Commanders.
Surely, the departure of Davante Adams was expected to cause some regression for the Packers’ offense, however, a drop-off of this magnitude was unforeseen completely, as Aaron Rodgers and co. went from ranking Top 10 in scoring last year (26.5 PPG), to ranking 26th in scoring so far this year (18.1 PPG).
I’ll back the Packers to cover here, as despite their shortcomings on the offensive side of the ball, I think we’ll see them cruise to a road victory against a Lions squad that’s averaged just 19.5 PPG across their last four contests, compounded by a defense that currently ranks dead-last in points allowed and total yardage (32.1 PPG).
Score Prediction: Packers 27, Lions 20
Best Bet: Packers -3.5 (-110)

GREEN BAY PACKERS BETTING ANALYSIS
Green Bay won the NFC North with a record of 13-4 last season, which narrowly edged Tampa Bay for the top seed in the conference. However, Rodgers’ second straight MVP campaign came to an abrupt halt in the Divisional Round, as the Packers went in cold after their first-round bye and fell to the Niners in a snowy slugfest at Lambeau Field.
The Packers traded away an All-Pro wideout in Adams this past offseason, which has depleted their receiving core to the ranks of Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Christian Watson, and rookie Romeo Doubs. However, nobody thought the loss would derail the operation quite like this, as Green Bay quickly went from ranking Top 10 in the league in scoring last season (26.5 PPG), to ranking Bottom 10 in scoring through the first eight weeks of this season (18.3 PPG), and that type of offensive production typically doesn’t win football games.
However, Detroit’s defense has been abysmal this season, highlighted by the Lions surrendering 24+ PTS in seven straight contests to open the year, so, if the Packers plan on turning things around in the near future, this is a perfect opportunity to get back on track against one of the worst defensive squads in the league.
DETROIT LIONS BETTING ANALYSIS
The Lions were incredibly fun to watch in the opening weeks of the season, as Jared Goff and co. racked up 32.5 PPG, while defensively, they allowed a league-worst 35.3 PPG across a thrilling 1-3 start to the year, meanwhile, everybody started to buy high on Detroit despite their only victory during that stretch coming at home against the Commanders (W, 36-27).
However, the Lions’ offense came crashing back to reality the last three weeks (11 PPG), and their defense hasn’t picked up much slack in return (28 PPG), so, things are heading south for Dan Campbell’s fast, highlighted by Detroit getting blown out by an average margin of 17 PPG across their last three games.
