Tennessee Titans vs. Kansas City Chiefs Picks, Predictions, Odds

The ninth weekend of regular season NFL action will conclude with a heavyweight AFC clash between the Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs. Coverage begins from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.

TENNESSEE TITANS vs. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS BETTING PREDICTION

The Titans stumbled out to a surprisingly slow start to the season, as Tennessee opened with a pair of ugly losses to the Giants and Bills, while scoring just 13.5 and allowing 31 PPG in those two affairs. However, the Titans have flipped the script since their opening skid, especially on the defensive side of the ball, as Tennessee enters Sunday night’s matchup following a perfect 5-0 run, while scoring 21 PPG and allowing just 15.2 PPG during that span.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, have performed right on par with previous campaigns to open the season, as Patrick Mahomes and co. racked up 37.2 PPG on 424 YPG across their five wins thus far, however, it wouldn’t truly be an Andy Reid led squad without a couple offensive meltdowns sprinkled in against the Colts and Bills (18.5 PPG, 351 YPG).

I’ll take the under here, as we’re either going to see a banged up Ryan Tannehill or rookie Malik Willis under center for Tennessee on Sunday night. So, I’m expecting to see an incredibly run-heavy script from a squad that’s already notorious for leaning on the ground game more than most. And while taking the under in Chiefs’ games can often feel like walking on thin ice, I think this is a good spot going up against a Tennessee defense that’s surrendered 17 PTS or less in four straight contests (13.5 PPG).

Score Prediction: Chiefs 24, Titans 17
Best Bet: Under 45.5 (-110)

TENNESSEE TITANS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Titans posted a head-scratching start to the season, as Tennessee earned the top seed in the AFC with a record of 12-5 last year, and then immediately followed that up by scoring 13.5 PPG and allowing 31 PPG across back-to-back losses to the Giants and Bills to open this season.

However, Tennessee has completely turned things around since starting 0-2, as the Titans now enter Week 9 riding an impressive five-game win streak, and they even won a game with their backup quarterback under center, as Willis threw for 55 yards on 10 pass attempts in a win over Houston last week.

That type of offensive production certainly won’t be enough to beat the Chiefs on Sunday night, but it certainly speaks volumes about the strength of this Titans’ rushing attack and defense.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS BETTING ANALYSIS

The Chiefs have pretty much looked like the same ole’ Chiefs through the first half of the season, as Kansas City’s offense lit up the scoreboard for 37.2 PPG on 424 YPG in tough victories over the Cardinals, Chargers, Bucs, Raiders, and Niners.

But of course, it wouldn’t be Chiefs’ football without the occasional head-scratching blunder, as they also averaged 18.5 PPG on 351 YPG across a pair of frustrating losses to the Colts and Bills.

The Chiefs are always capable of exploding for 40+ PTS with Mahomes at the helm, and they’ve already done it three times this season on the way to averaging a league-best 31.9 PPG, however, I’m really banking on solid defensive performance from Tennessee, assuming the Titans won’t score 20+ PTS in Sunday night’s matchup.
