CAROLINA HURRICANES vs. WASHINGTON CAPITALS PREDICTIONS

The Hurricanes have alternated wins and losses in the past four outings, losing just once in regulation in the past five games (2-1-2). That five-game stretch includes a 4-3 shootout loss at home against these Capitals on March 18, as Ilya Samsonov edged backup Antti Raanta. The backup tendy was in there Saturday night in St. Louis, too, and the Hurricanes roughed up the Blues 7-2 to hit the OVER themselves.

The Capitals have picked up a pair of 4-3 victories in the past two outings, nipping New Jersey and Buffalo on Friday and Saturday. Oddly enough, five of Washington's past six games have resulted in 4-3 victories either in regulation, overtime or a shootout. Eight of their past 10 games, win or lose, have been one-goal games, too. That includes the 4-3 shootout win in Raleigh on March 18.

After getting blanked by the New York Rangers at home on March 20, the Hurricanes have registered 4.3 goals per game across the past three outings, aided by that seven-goal outburst Saturday. Carolina has scored three or more goals in three straight, and two or more goals in 10 of the past 11 outings. The defense and goaltending has been very good, however, allowing two or fewer goals in three of the past four, and seven of the previous 11, as the UNDER is 8-2-1 during the run.

In other words, the Hurricanes are likely praying not to see the Capitals in the playoffs, as they just have Carolina's number.

Washington has topped six consecutive Eastern Conference foes, while winning each of the past five inside the division, too. The Caps are 9-3 in the past 12 games overall, while going 4-1 in the past five games as an underdog.

For totals, it's all OVER all the time for the Caps. The OVER is 10-1 in the past 11 games overall for Washington, 4-0 in the past four as an underdog and 4-1 in the past five home games. The OVER is 5-0 in the past five inside the conference, too.

Washington has dominated Carolina lately, especially this season, with the Capitals outscoring the Hurricanes 12-5 in three games this season. Washington has been playing very close games lately, and winning inside the division and inside the conference. They're also a respectable 4-2 in the past six at COA, including the 4-0 blanking of the Hurricanes on March 3.
