TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING vs. WASHINGTON CAPITALS PREDICTIONS

The Lightning were pummeled 6-2 by the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night at Amalie Arena, and that's back-to-back games allowing 5.5 goals per game. Hitting the road might be the best thing for the Lightning, as Tampa Bay has won two straight on the road, allowing just one goal apiece in those victories. The Lightning have yielded just 10 total goals in the past six games on the road, too.

The Capitals are hoping the third time is a charm against the Lightning. Washington lost 2-1 in overtime at home against Tampa Bay on Oct. 16 in the first meeting, while dropping a 3-2 decision on Nov. 1 in D.C. The UNDER connected in both of those meetings with Andrei Vasilevskiy just besting Vitek Vanecek in each of those games. The favorite and UNDER have cashed in each of the past four meetings.

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 43-19-7
  • ATS: 31-38
  • O/U: 35-32-2

The Lightning fell 6-2 to the Maple Leafs, and 5-4 in a shootout against the Canadiens on April 2. The two-goal output against the Leafs snapped a four-game streak with four or more goals. The OVER has hit in each of the past four for Tampa Bay, too.

It's all about the Lightning when favored, going 38-15 in the past 53 games as a favorite. They're also 47-22 in the past 69 games as a road favorite, while going 26-12 in the past 38 games inside the Metropolitan Division. However, the Lightning have won just once in the past eight attempts against teams with a winning overall record.

The OVER has not only cashed in four straight outings, while going 4-0 in the past four as a favorite, too. The UNDER is 8-0 in the past eight games on the road, while going 6-0 in the past six as a road favorite. The UNDER is also 6-2-1 in the past nine against winning teams, while going 3-1-1 in the past five attempts against Metropolitan Division teams.

WASHINGTON CAPITALS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 37-22-10
  • ATS: 34-35
  • O/U: 39-28-2

The Capitals have gotten thrashed in the past two games. Carolina punished Washington 6-1 in D.C. on March 28, and after a few days of rest, the Caps returned and were drummed by the Wild 5-1 on Sunday.

Washington has struggled defensively and in between the crease, allowing three or more goals in seven straight, an average of 4.0 goals per game. The Caps have coughed up two or more goals in 13 in a row, too.

The OVER is 11-2 in the past 13 games overall, while going 5-2 in the past seven home games, while going 5-0 in the past five as an underdog. The OVER is 6-0 in the past six against Eastern Conference teams, too, while the OVER is 5-2 in the past seven against Atlantic Division teams.

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING vs. WASHINGTON CAPITALS BETTING CONCLUSION

The Lightning have tumbled to third place in the Atlantic Division after a shootout loss to the Canadiens and a blowout loss to the Maple Leafs, a team which Tampa Bay is jockeying for playoff seeding. The two-time defending Stanley Cup champions should be just fine, and they can get back to 95 points with 12 games remaining with a win here. Still, a loss would be devastating, as the Boston Bruins also have 93 points, and a loss can drop the Lightning to fourth place if the B's can get an overtime loss or win in Friday's game in Tampa.

The Capitals are more than likely going to the playoffs, as they're 11 points clear of the New York Islanders, and 12 points clear of the Columbus Blue Jackets with 13 games to go. They can't afford to fool around, however. The Caps have been amazing on the road this season, going 21-7-5, but they're just 16-15-5 at home so far. Both teams have something to play for, but I expect the Lightning to play with a little more urgency.
