LOS ANGELES KINGS vs. EDMONTON OILERS PREDICTIONS

The Kings closed out the regular season with a 3-2 overtime loss in Vancouver behind backup goalie Cal Petersen. Expect to see Jonathan Quick in Game 1, as he finished the season on a five-start win streak.

The Oilers held off the Kings for home-ice advantage in this series, winning the final three games, while going 7-1 in the past eight outings. They also picked up a very important 3-2 victory in Los Angeles on April 7, while also winning 4-3 in a shootout in Edmonton on March 30. In fact, after losing 5-1 at home on Dec. 5 to the Kings, the Oilers have rattled off three straight victories in this series, outscoring the Kings 12-7. The past two were one-goal games, however.

LOS ANGELES KINGS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 44-27-11
  • ATS: 39-43
  • O/U: 42-37-3

The Kings have scored at least two goals in each of the past 14 games, kicking off the streak in Edmonton on March 30 with a 4-3 shootout victory. The OVER-UNDER split in two games against the Oilers during that streak, and the OVER is 2-1-1 in the four regular-season meetings against Edmonton, too.

Los Angeles returns to the playoffs for the first time since getting swept in the first round by the then-expansion Vegas Golden Knights in the 2018 Western Conference Quarterfinals. The Kings are looking to win a playoff series for the first time since 2014 when they topped the New York Rangers to win the Stanley Cup for the second time in three years.

EDMONTON OILERS BETTING ANALYSIS

Straight Up - SU, Against the Spread - ATS, Over-Under (O/U)

  • SU: 53-22-7
  • ATS: 40-42
  • O/U: 46-33-3

The Oilers are back in the postseason looking to atone for a first-round sweep against the Winnipeg Jets last season in the COVID all-Canada Division. Like the Kings, Edmonton hasn't won a series in several years dating back to a first-round win over the San Jose Sharks in 2017. That's their only series win since the 2006 season when Edmonton lost in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Edmonton has cashed in 21 of the past 26 games against Pacific Division opponents, and it is dominant at home, posting 36 wins in the past 51 as a home favorite, while going 19-7 in the past 26 as a home fave. That's the good news. The bad news is that the Oilers are 0-6 in the past six playoff games when favored.

LOS ANGELES KINGS vs. EDMONTON OILERS CONCLUSION

The Kings and Oilers are two organizations with a proud history. They'll also be forever linked due to one of the biggest trades in NHL history when the Kings acquired Wayne Gretzky on Aug. 9, 1988.

This is the first time these organizations have met in a playoff series since the Campbell Conference Division Semifinals back in 1992, as the Oilers won in six games. They also topped Gretzky and the Kings in six back in 1991 in the Division Finals, and they won in five games in the Division Semifinals in 1987. Edmonton has won three of the past four playoff series meetings with Los Angeles, and they're going to get off to a hot start in this playoff series, too.
