The New York Yankees will take on the host Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night in the opener of a three-game AL East set. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. ET from Tropicana Field.  Coverage will be on each team’s regional sports channel as well as MLB.TV. 

This will be a pitching matchup between a righty and a lefty. Domingo German will take the mound for the Yankees. Jeffrey Springs is the starting pitcher for the Rays. German is 2-2 with an ERA of 3.19. Springs has a 6-4 record and his ERA is 2.76.

Springs has given up 89 hits, 12 home runs, and 23 walks in addition to tossing 110 strikeouts in 101.0 innings. In Springs’ last contest vs. the Boston Red Sox on Aug. 27, he allowed five earned runs with eight strikeouts in six innings. 

Prior to the contests on Sept.1, the Yankees ranked first in home runs (205), second in RBI (620), fifth in slugging percentage (.425) and on-base percentage (.323), and 20th in batting average (.240). Right fielder Aaron Judge leads the Yankees across the board in batting average (.296), home runs (51), RBI (113), on-base percentage (.399) and hits (139). Third baseman DJ LeMahieu has 118 hits and an on-base percentage of .365. First baseman Anthony Rizzo is second on the Yankees in home runs (30) and RBI (71).

Prior to the games on Sept. 1, the Rays ranked 18th in batting average (.241) and RBI (522), 20th in on-base percentage (.310) and slugging percentage (.383), and 22nd in home runs (118). Third baseman Yandy Diaz leads the Rays in batting average (.289) and on-base percentage (.395). Left fielder Randy Arozarena is tops on the Rays in home runs (18), RBI (70) and hits (127)

The Rays are favored by 1.5 runs against the Yankees. For the money line, it’s Yankees +110, Rays -135. The over/under is set for seven runs. 

The Yankees are 57-74 against the spread overall and 28-38 against the spread on the road. In terms of over/under, the Yankees are 60-67-4 overall and 30-34-2 on the road. 

The Rays are 61-68 against the spread overall and 30-35 against the spread at home. For over/under, the Rays are 59-61-9 overall and 29-30-6 at home.
