I was in Orlando the last time the Octagon made its way to Amway Center. On that night, Rafael dos Anjos ended Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone’s eight-fight winning streak and defended his lightweight title with a 66-second knockout.
Also, Nate Diaz got back on the winning track and beat Michael Johnson by unanimous decision as a +320 underdog (I was on the 209 product that night!), and then Diaz went on his epic rant aimed at Conor McGregor (you’re taking everything I’ve worked for, mother F#@*___er!!) in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan LIVE on (Big) FOX.
Let’s hope there as many fireworks this time around, although I won’t be in attendance. Jeremy ‘Little Heathen’ Stephens will take on Josh Emmett in a featherweight scrap that’s the headliner of UFC on FOX 28. There are 12 fights on the card.
Stephens has won back-to-back bouts that both earned Fight of the Night honors. In fact, Stephens has been in the Fight of the Night three times in his last five outings. He defeated Gilbert Melendez by unanimous decision at UFC 215 and earned a second-round knockout of Doo Ho Choi at UFC Fight Night 124 only 41 days ago.
Emmett enjoyed a breakout performance his last time out, scoring a first-round KO of perennial contender and former title challenger Ricardo ‘The Bully’ Lamas, who was left out cold by a powerful left-hand hook. Emmett is now 4-1 in the UFC.
