The annual Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville is often referred to as the “most exciting two minutes in sports.” Up to 20 of the best three-year old Thoroughbreds in each year’s class compete over 1 ¼ miles on the dirt for horse racing’s most prestigious title.

If you are watching this year’s Kentucky Derby with a group of friends, you can turn the entire race card on Derby Day into a show parlay. Each member of the group makes an initial investment ($1, $5 or $10), and they are assigned a race on Churchill Down’s entire card for Saturday, May 7. The first person on the list places a show bet on the first race of the day in the amount of the entire group investment.

For example, if 10 people add $1 to the show parlay betting pool, the first wager is a $10 show bet on Race 1.

If the show bet pays off on that first race, the next person in the group bets the entire winnings on a show bet for the next race. As long as the show bets keep winning, the parlay remains in play. If your group gets hot and strings together four or five winning bets, the total prize money won can add up fast.

If one of the show bets fails to win, you can start a new show parlay with another small investment by all the players in your group. There are a total of 12 races on Saturday’s card at Churchill Downs. Post time for the Kentucky Derby as the 12^th and final race of the day is set for 6:57 p.m. (ET).
