The NBA Finals is the pro basketball championship of the National Basketball Association. The game pits the winner of the two conferences, Eastern and Western. The NBA Finals starts in June as two teams square off in a best-of-seven series.
The Boston Celtics have won 17 championships, which is tied for the most in NBA history. The franchise won eight consecutive titles from 1959 through 1966. The Los Angeles Lakers have captured the title 17 times, capped off by their championship in 2020.
Chicago (6) and San Antonio (5) were the two franchises that have won four or more championships but Golden State joined them after the 2018 season.
This year, the Golden State Warriors punched their ticket back to the NBA Finals defeating the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic - who upset the No. 1 seed Phoenix Suns in the Conference Semifinals. The Warriors return to the NBA Finals for the first time since the 2018-19 season and have now been to six of the last eight - while winning the title in four of those six appearances.
