There are 30 teams in the NBA and they are divided equally with 15 teams into different conferences. Each conference is made up of three divisions with five teams in each group. ATLANTIC DIVISION

All five teams in this group are located on the East Coast, which includes two teams in one city. That certainly makes the travel easier for this group when squaring off against one another, especially when playing home-and-home series and back-to-back spots. This division also has the Toronto Raptors, which is the only team in the NBA from Canada.

CENTRAL DIVISION

Unlike the Atlantic Division, this group is a bit more spread out and two of the teams play in the Central Time Zone while three are in the Eastern Time Zone. The outliers are the Milwaukee Bucks and the Chicago Bulls.

SOUTHEAST DIVISION

The Sunshine State aka Florida has two teams in the NBA and both are included in this group. Two other clubs represent the South while one plays in the nation’s capital.

NORTHWEST DIVISION

This five-team group in the NBA is the most spread out among the six divisions and travel can play a serious hinderance on each club. Plus, opponents traveling to face any of these teams will have to adjust to higher altitudes in two of the venues -- Utah and Colorado. Also this group has some strong local supporters with three of the teams (Thunder, Trail Blazers, Jazz) being the only professional support represented in their city.

PACIFIC DIVISION

This could be called the California division as four NBA teams reside in the state with Phoenix not far away. The Lakers and Clippers both represent Los Angeles and they’re only teams in the NBA to share the same facility – the Staples Center.
