Betting on the New Orleans Pelicans

Louisiana, with New Orleans in particular, is known for being a haven of good times. So, it’s only natural that people would want to place bets on New Orleans sports teams. Here is everything you need to know about betting on the New Orleans Pelicans.

The New Orleans Pelicans are a fairly new professional basketball franchise, having been established in the 2002-2003 season as the New Orleans Hornets. This was when the Charlotte Hornets were relocated to New Orleans. However, due to the damage that was caused in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina, the team needed to relocate to Oklahoma City temporarily.

The franchise then spent two seasons as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets before making their return to New Orleans for the 2007-2008 season. Then, in 2013, it was announced that the Hornets would be changing their name to the New Orleans Pelicans for the 2012-2013 season.

The Hornet’s name, history, and records from 1988-2002 were returned back to Charlotte. The Charlotte Bobcats then went back to being known as the Charlotte Hornets back in 2014.

The New Orleans professional basketball franchise has managed to qualify for the playoffs seven times. The franchise has been able to earn two playoff series victories as well as one division title.

One of the most recognizable players from New Orleans professional basketball has been Chris Paul from 2005-2011. Another of the greatest players has been Anthony Davis, starting in 2012.

The New Orleans Pelicans does not have an established rivalry. However, one team that looks like it’s potentially forming a long-term rivalry with the team is the Houston Rockets.

A popular type of bet for wagerers to place on basketball is a spread bet. This is bet on the points from the game and the points the team either wins or loses by. For instance let’s say:

  • New Orleans Pelicans: -2.5
  • Houston Rockets: +2.5

In this case, the Pelicans would be the favored team to win the game. They would need to win by three or more points for the bettor to win their bet. But, if a bet is placed on the Rockets, they would need to have an outright win or not lose by 3 or more points for the wagerer to win the bet.
