Betting on the San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the more successful teams in the NBA. While the current playoff drought could drag on through another season, betting the Spurs remains a popular option.
San Antonio Spurs Overview
The history of this franchise can be traced back to the late 1960’s in the old ABA. Known as the Dallas Chaparrals, the team relocated to San Antonio in 1973 and became known as the Spurs.
Moving to the NBA in 1976 through a merger, the Spurs were a perennial playoff team behind players such as George Gervin and Artis Gilmore. With the arrival of George Popovich as head coach in 1997, San Antonio laid the groundwork for the start of a NBA dynasty.
The addition of Tim Duncan was instrumental in the Spurs’ run to four NBA Championships over the span of nine seasons. The first world title was in the 1989/1999 season. The final championship run during the glory days of the Spurs was in 2007.
While Duncan was still with San Antonio in 2014, Kawhi Leonard was the guiding force behind one more title run in 2014. Amazingly enough, all of those NBA greats have retired or moved on to another team. Yet, Popovich is still the head coach of the Spurs.
As a betting team, San Antonio still has a winning record against the closing point spread. Covering the spread as a favorite means winning the game by more than the set points.
Say the Spurs are heading up against the Lakers and the odds for the spread are set as follows:
Spurs +3.5 -110
Lakers -3.5 -110
In this example, your bet on the Spurs would pay out if they either lose, but within less than 3 points, or win outright.
Betting on the San Antonio Spurs in Texas
Sports bettors can wager on San Antonio games in any US state offering legal sports betting. In most cases, this can be done online through a mobile sportsbook app. In certain states, the only form of legal sports betting is at a land-based casino with a retail sportsbook.
Unfortunately for Spurs’ fans in Texas, it is still illegal to bet on sports in this state. This includes both retail and online sportsbooks.
Although there is no sports betting in Texas just yet, there are some fun DFS apps and social sportsbooks to use. Here are some of our favorites for Spurs fans:
- Underdog Promo Code
- PrizePicks Promo Code
- Fliff Promo Code
- Thrillzz Promo Code
- Boom Fantasy Bonus Code
- Sleeper Fantasy Promo Code
San Antonio Spurs Partnership With Sportsbooks
Despite the fact that sports betting is not legal in Texas, the Spurs do have a sports betting partnership with bet365.
One of the most popular promotional aspects of this partnership is the “Call Your Shot” contest. This free-to-play game is available on a national basis through the San Antonio Spurs’ mobile team app. This contest is heavily promoted at the AT&T Center as the Spurs’ home court through designated bet365 signage.
