🗞 IS ONLINE SPORTS BETTING LEGAL IN MASSACHUSETTS?
In a word, yes. To add context, Governor Charlie Baker signed H 5164 in 2022, making it legal to bet on sports in the Bay State. However, since the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is in charge of offering sportsbook licenses to eligible operators like BetMGM, they have set the launch date.
Typically, sports betting laws cover both in-person and online betting through sportsbook apps. In Massachusetts, in-person (also called "retail" or "brick and mortar") betting will go live on January 31, 2023 (tomorrow!), with mobile sportsbooks going live in March 2023.

🗓 WHEN WILL MA SPORTS BETTING BEGIN?

BEST MASSACHUSETTS ONLINE SPORTSBOOKS
Though we can’t say for sure what the future of Massachusetts online sports betting will look like, we can make some pretty educated guesses. For instance, there are some sports betting websites likely to emerge now that betting is legal. See below for a list of potential Massachusetts online sportsbooks. These examples are all top sports betting sites in other states and are likely to open in Massachusetts for various reasons.
✅ SPORTSBOOKS THAT HAVE ALREADY SECURED A LICENSE IN MA
As soon as they were able, a number of online sports betting sites in the US have secured licensure with the MGC (Massachusetts Gaming Commission), including the following. These casino and racetrack locations will have the ability to license online sportsbooks with more than one partner:
- Encore Boston Harbor: In-person betting, to partner with WynnBet and Caesars.
- MGM Springfield: In-person betting, online with BetMGM.
- Plainridge Park: Retail (in-person), online with Barstool Sportsbook and Fanatics.
- Raynham Park: Retail, mobile betting with Caesars.
- Suffolk Downs: Retail, with TVG and Xpressbet.
It is no secret that the MGM Springfield Casino has been preparing to open a sportsbook as soon as they’re legally able to. The retail casino was opened in August 2018 and offers 125,000 square feet of gambling glory. It is one of two casinos this size in the state and has already struck up betting partnerships with the NBA and WNBA. BetMGM is one of the top sports betting sites available, and are fully expected to launch their app for mobile sports betting in Massachusetts.
FOX BET MASSACHUSETTS
FOX Bet has had an aggressive approach to rolling out their app. MA sports betting apps are now legal, so it appears to be only a matter of time before FOX Bet is able to launch a site for sports gambling in MA. It’s extremely likely that FOX Bet would partner with the established retail casino Plainridge Park.
Of course, we'd be remiss had we not mentioned DraftKings, which is headquartered in Boston. Like FanDuel (which could also get into the market if and when it opens), DraftKings made its name with daily fantasy sports early on and now operates a premier sportsbook.
BARSTOOL SPORTSBOOK MASSACHUSETTS
Massachusetts-born Barstool Sports is making waves in the online betting space, and expects to provide one of the best sportsbooks in MA now that they're approved for a license through the MGC. They're under heavy scrutiny, but that hasn't stopped Barstool from pushing forward and still providing a solid product for the end-user. Soon, when MA launches with online sports betting, you can get online with Barstool using our links!
LICENSES STILL PENDING FOR BETR AND MORE
A ton of betting companies are vying for a spot in the Massachusetts sportsbook lineup. Big names like Jake Paul's microbetting company Betr and more all want a piece of the Bay State pie.
bet365 has recently withdrawn their betting license application in the state.
MASSACHUSETTS SPORTS BETTING: LATEST NEWS
It's only a matter of time before online sportsbooks go live in Massachusetts. The governor's ink is drying on the law, and it's now up to the Mass Gaming Commission to establish the ruleset and start offering licenses. The earliest that's expected to happen is in 2023 for online betting.

MLB Betting In Massachusetts
More than any other sport, baseball has brought the people of Boston together in a major way. Calling it the "Curse of the Bambino", Bostonians whisper the phrase under their breaths. Apparently, trading Babe Ruth away to the Yankees in 1918 was a bad move, because the Red Sox didn't win another World Series title until 86 years later. The Boston Red Sox have put out some of the best players in the game like the obvious Bambino, Babe Ruth; Wade Boggs, Cy Young, Roger Clemens, and more. Bet on the Red Sox at Fenway or at home as soon as betting is legal in the state.
