Thursday Night Football has been an up and down adventure ride since its debut in 2006. Its novelty wore off quickly as the schedule bounced around between broadcast outlets. There were a solid few years where the matchups always seemed to be ugly football. Sometimes, the teams looked good at the beginning of the year, but by the time that TNF matchup was scheduled, both teams were horrible.

This season it looks like Jeff Bezos will be getting even richer. Amazon has the exclusive rights to the entire TNF product starting this season (outside of Weeks 1 and 12, which are on NBC). When you look at this year’s Thursday schedule, the quality looks fine. There are quite a few divisional matchups with teams that seem to be solid playoff contenders.

Thursday mornings are a little better for sports bettors. It brings the start of the new NFL week and another chance to beat the house with all the sports betting tips you find on VegasInsider. No matter what matchups the schedule provides, there’s an angle you can find to cash some tickets.

TNF Looking Forward

It’s been a transition from traditional television and its coaxial cables to streaming services and your bandwidth for Thursday Night Football, and that’ll continue to grow next season. Get used to it because we’ll be seeing more of the names Amazon, Google, and Apple listed on the NFL schedule.

Tips

Primetime games tend to be their own little world and you’ll sometimes get results we didn’t see coming. It doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s Sunday, Thursday, or Monday Night Football, betting on these games is always challenging. Just look at those results from above and you’ll see that home-field advantage or being posted as the favorite were both non-issues this season in the first game of the week.

Can the Titans break that losing streak against a Cowboys team that has been playing lights out for most of the season? That proverbial “on paper” preview doesn’t offer the home team in this one much hope. However, when you’re betting the game and there are ten and one-half worth of points in the line, anything can happen. The Jaguars and Philly combined for 71 against the Titans in back-to-back weeks, and Dallas should probably do the same.

Other Ways to Bet on Thursday Night Football

Every new football season brings more exciting ways to wager on the games. The sportsbooks are always adding new options. Seasoned veterans remember the days when you had four choices when wagering on the NFL. There was a favorite, an underdog, and two options for the total.

Some of the best NFL handicappers in the world never even bet on the whole game. They’ll break down the contest using the world of data, statistics, and analytics to find better opportunities for their investments. First quarter action and betting the second half and third quarter team totals allows players to focus on a microcosm of the game and wager only on that.

This year you can start before the regular season even begins with future bets. Think the Rams will repeat? Do you have the Bengals returning to the Big Game? Is it possible Aaron Rodgers, at his age, can win back-to-back league MVPs?

NFL Props have only been around for a few years, but it allows sports bettors to use their fantasy knowledge to win bets on a personnel level. Will the QB throw for more than 2.5 TDs? Is your top fantasy wide receiver going to have more than 84.5 yards in receptions?

When you wager on just one player’s numbers, it totally changes the way you watch the game. If your only play on the contest is total rushing yards for the home team, you can hit the kitchen, the can, or both when the visitors are in possession of the ball.

Thursday Night Football Betting Tips

How many times have you seen someone lose their weekly contest because they never entered their info for Thursday Night Football? Whether it’s their fantasy lineup, an ATS contest, or just a pick ‘em pool, sometimes life gets in the way of sports betting. Always get your plays locked and loaded early to begin the week.

Going blank on Thursday, the start of that week’s journey towards profitability, because you were expected to actually work on your job can keep you aggravated for the entire weekend. Especially when Sunday night comes around, and you’re tied for the lead or only trailing the leader by a little.

Another aspect of TNF, as it is with most of the primetime games, is forcing your play. Just because there’s a game on doesn’t mean you have to bet it. Most books have enough live-action options that you can hop on even well after the game starts.

We’ve all seen a tale of two halves. These are games where each half has a completely different outcome. Maybe it’s 6-3 at the break, and both teams combine for 31 points in the second half, or a team down double digits at half ends up winning the game by that much. Betting only the first or second half is a great way to minimize your investment and risk, in any Thursday Night Football game.
