Detroit Pistons ODDS
As a mainstay with Michigan sports fans, betting on the NBA’s Detroit Pistons accounts for a significant portion of the state’s monthly betting handle. Michigan has quickly grown to become a major Midwest market for legal sports betting in the US.
Detroit Pistons Team Overview
As one of the NBA’s original 11 franchises, the Pistons played their first nine seasons in Fort Wayne. Moving to Detroit ahead of the 1957/1958 season, this was the start of an incredible run as one of the NBA’s most iconic teams.
Playoff appearances were rather lean from the mid-1960’s into the early 1970’s. The arrival of Bob Lanier changed the team’s fortunes almost overnight. His career with Detroit was highlighted by two runs to the Western Conference semifinals.
The glory days of the Pistons can be tied to famous NBA bad boys Bill Laimbeer and Dennis Rodman. Detroit won back-to-back NBA Championships in 1989 and 1990. With Chauncey Billups as the Pistons’ front man, Detroit added a third world title to its resume in 2004.
Through league realignment, Detroit moved into the Eastern Conference’s Central Division back in the early 1980’s. This helped to form natural Midwest rivalries with the Chicago Bulls and the Indiana Pacers.
More recently, the Milwaukee Bucks have established themselves as the team to beat in the Central. Unfortunately, Detroit has struggled to stay competitive in recent seasons. The Pistons have only made two postseason appearances since the 2008/2009 season. Both trips ended with an early first round exit.
Detroit may not be one of the more competitive NBA teams in recent years. Yet, the Pistons are still a popular betting team. This is especially true when playing Chicago, Indiana. Milwaukee or Cleveland as the other four teams in their division.
The Pistons still enjoy a sizable home court advantage at Little Caesars Arena in Midtown Detroit. Suppose they were getting five points at home against Milwaukee on the NBA point spread. You would cash a winning bet if Detroit wins the game or loses by four points or less.
