Betting on the Golden State Warriors
As the NBA’s most recent dynasty, the era-defining Warriors have become one of the most popular teams to be on.
Golden State Warriors Franchise History
Immediately after moving to The Golden State, the then-San-Francisco Warriors made a few deep playoff runs, but they came up short in the Finals twice.
Rick Barry eventually led the franchise to its first NBA championship, in 1975, since moving out west from Philadelphia.
Between that 1975 title and the Steph Curry era, there wasn’t much to be excited about for “Dubs” fans.
The electrifying backcourt of Baron Davis and Monta Ellis provided some enthusiasm when they led the 8-seeded Warriors to a series win over the 1-seeded Dallas Mavericks in 2007.
At that point, it was only the fourth time an 8-seed knocked off a 1-seed in the first round.
From 2009-2012, the Warriors brass would make draft picks that changed the course of their franchise, and the league, forever.
In 2009 came Steph Curry. Klay Thompson was next in 2011. Lastly, the Warriors selected Draymond Green in 2012, completing the assembly of perhaps the greatest homegrown big three of all time.
From 2015-2019, that trio appeared in Finals every year, won three titles, and set the record for the most wins in a single regular season.
All-time legend Kevin Durant came over in free agency from the Oklahoma City Thunder for two of those three championships, making those Warriors teams some of the best to ever play in the NBA.
At its peak, Warriors basketball was poetry. The Dubs, especially Steph Curry, changed the way the game was played in the NBA with their high-octane, three-point-launching, unselfish brand of basketball.
Although their run ended so recently – or is still going depending on who you ask – those Warriors teams are a handful of the most impactful teams in basketball history.
🏀 Betting on the Golden State Warriors in California 🏀
As it stands, sports betting in California is illegal. While there is optimism surrounding the future legality of California sports betting, it may take some time.
A popular wager type on a basketball game is a point spread bet, which might look something like this:
- Warriors -7.5
- Cavaliers +7.5
Here, the Warriors are the favorite and need to win by at least 8 points to cover the spread. If they lose the game, or win by less than 8, the Cavaliers cover the spread.
Legalization, and especially launch, in 2022 is far less than a guarantee. However, sportsbook operators, hopeful bettors, and some legislators are eager to make headway on the topic.
Perhaps the only comparable sports betting launch is New York’s, and the Empire State already smashed the one month betting handle record in its first month.
Many believe California represents similar untapped potential in the sports betting market. As the most populous state in the US, legalization would result in two-thirds of Americans living in states with legal sports betting.
Although there is no sports betting in California just yet, there are some fun DFS apps and social sportsbooks to use. Here are some of our favorites for Warriors fans:
