A few quick thoughts from conference tournament action:
Enough has been said about it but the end of the St. John's/Rutgers game was beyond bizarre. It's one thing to let guys play but Rutgers certainly got no favors with several instances where fouls could have been called on the last three possessions while in the final minute St. John's got an incredibly light tick-tack call on the perimeter. Just like players officials also need to play to final seconds, so Rutgers certainly deserved a final shot.
Those on Virginia Thursday morning suffered as bad of a beat as I can remember. The Cavaliers had a complete meltdown with turnovers and missed free throws to allow Miami to make up a ten point deficit in 41 seconds. Tournament time brings added pressure, not everyone can handle it.
Jared Sullinger is a great talent and his strength and size are unmatched in the Big Ten. I don't like him at the next level as he won't get every call he is getting now. Sullinger seems like a great kid off the court but he also often seems to take dives and whines on the court, it seems a little unlikely that Luka Mirkovic or Mike Bruesewitz should be able to knock him down as easily as he has fallen in recent games. The overtime period against Northwestern featured an embarrassment of calls going Sullinger's way and it has been that way in many Big Ten games this season. That may not happen in the NCAA tournament or in the NBA.
