I'm the first to say that ESPN's Dan Patrick is a knucklehead and if I was a star athlete or coach, I'm sure he'd chafe me with his questions in an interview. But with that said, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was way out of line in a chat with Patrick yesterday. Lewis refused to accept any responsibility for the recent behavior of his players, and even blamed "profiling" by local authorities as a cause of his team's turmoil. Whatever Marvin, I don't expect an NFL coach to baby sit grown men, but there comes a point where you've got to accept some responsibilty, and we hit that point a half-dozen arrests ago.
--I love Tom Glavine, but I'll take John Smoltz over him every day of the week and three times on Sunday.
--LSU head coach John Brady could be on the hot seat this year despite leading the Bayou Bengals to the Final Four two seasons ago. Big Baby decided to leave a year early and now Magnum Rolle has decided to transfer. Ouch!
--Real surprised to see Roy Hibbert stay in school. Good for him, GREAT for John Thompson III and the Hoyas.
--Great line from Mike Bianchi of Orlando Sentinel today: "Repeat after me, Magic fans: Don't be silly, we aren't getting Billy!"
--Although the Magic may come calling, Donovan is about to sign an extension with Florida that will reportedly pay him $3.5 million per year.
--Speaking of Donovan, Rivals.com just re-released its rankings for 2007 recruiting classes after the late signing period. With the Gators inking Jai Lucas, the son of former NBA player and coach John Lucas, they catapulted into the top spot of the website's ranking of classes.
--I agree that Bob Huggins wronged Kansas State by bolting after stirring excitement galore in just one year with the Wildcats. However, the K-State faithful can't be too mad at the guy. He did, after all, score the nation's No. 2 rated class according to Rivals, and this group of seven players -- including stud Michael Beasley -- will have the Wildcats on the Big 12 radar for years to come.
--I think LeBron is going to get nasty tonight.
--If I'm ESPN, I'm stoked with the trade of Michael Irvin for Keyshawn Johnson. Irvin was just too obnoxious and loud for television.
--Angels RHP Ervin Santana got shelled on the road again today. His road woes are almost to the point that you just leave him at home. Put Santana on your auto-fade list when he takes the slab outside of Anaheim.
--Andruw Jones is only hitting .216 and it's a contract year for the best defensive outfielder in baseball since Willie Mays.
--Mets LHP Oliver Perez absolutely OWNS the Braves.
