If it's true, they'll have to shut up. Seriously, they'll have to absolutely zip it. That's right, no more bashing the never-frazzled, oft-criticized-and-thrown-under-the-bus Hawks GM Billy Knight.
You've heard me say it before -- many times, in fact. Knight inherited an absolute debacle following Pete Babcock's turturous-if-you're-a-Hawks-fan tenure.
He got busy ridding the team of nightmare contracts belonging to Shareef Abdur-Rahim and "Big-Dog" Robinson (did he really get a title ring with the Spurs?!), taking his time and using patience to build up a talented nucleus.
All the while, the bullets were flying at him. He gave away Rasheed Wallace. He drafted Shelden Williams, etc., etc. etc.
Well, where are the critics now?
According to YahooSports.com, Knight is on the cusp of dealing the No. 3 and No. 11 picks in a three-way trade with Minnesota that'll bring Amare Stoudemire to Atlanta, while Kevin Garnett goes to Phoenix, with the T-wolves getting the draft picks.
In a word...wow!
If the deal comes to fruition, the Hawks become serious contenders in the East right away. I mean right now.
And I can't blame the Suns for the deal, either. They get KG. As for the T-wolves, well, they start over, but they'll also get two quality young players in this deep draft.
Again, nothing is official. This is a report of a report that merely quotes "league sources."
But if it's true, the crow is served, especially to the talking radio heads in the city of Atlanta.
That's right, if Amare is coming to Atlanta, so are 'W's' galore. And this scribe will give Billy his Knight-Hood. Crown 'em.
