South Carolina third-year head coach Steve Spurrier suspended three players today for the school's season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette. Senior QB Blake Mitchell was one of those players.
All three suspensions were related to missing summer classes. RB Bobby Wallace and CB Chris Hail will also serve one-game suspensions.
The Gamecocks had been listed as 30-point favorites at most books, but the game has been temporarily taken off the board. Bettors should expect several points to be shaved off the number in the wake of Mitchell's absence.
According to GamecockCentral.com, Spurrier indicated that redshirt freshman Chris Smelley will most likely get the starting nod.
