If you're a South Carolina fan, there's good news and bad news today. First, the good news: QB Blake Mitchell is appealing his university-imposed suspension for the Gamecocks' season opener versus Louisiana-Lafayette. Steve Spurrier told GamecockCentral.com that Mitchell would start if he wins his appeal. If not, redshirt freshman Chris Smelley will get the starting nod.
Now the bad news: Emanuel Cook, who was set to be South Carolina's starting strong safety, was arrested early this morning for unlawful possession of a pistol. He has been suspended from school and the team indefinitely.
The 'Cocks have a season win total of seven. As I've stated many times recently, I'm real high on the 'over' for that wager.
