Allright folks, just jumping in here real quick with a few thoughts and an update on my recent handicapping if anyone has any interest in my pick packs.
--I'm off to a 2-0 start in college hoops, cashing with a pair of double-digit 'dogs the last two nights (Davidson and Gardner-Webb). I'm trying hard to find a play for tonight, but haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet. Sorta have a small lean to the 'under' (143ish) for Memphis-UConn (9:00 p.m. Eastern tip, ESPN2). I'm tempted to give Gardner-Webb another shot catching 13 against Oklahoma. That's also an ESPN2 game at MSG, tipping at 6:30.
--I've hit back-to-back guaranteeds in college football this week, cashing with Ball St. and Arizona. I'm so chafed I didn't get a taste of 'Zona on the money line. I've got another pay-if-it-wins-only going for Hawaii-Nevada tonight if you want to check that out. Here's the link for my Saturday pick pack. Only three games up now (5:15 p.m. Eastern), but several more to follow in next hour or so.
--I'm running a little late with my NBA handicapping today, but I've got one play in my pick pack. It's a guaranteed. I'm on a 7-2 run with my last nine NBA guaranteed plays.
--If considering a play on the Hawks tonight against Seattle, proceed with caution. Josh Smith is "doubtful" and Acie Law is "out" for Atlanta.
--Gardner-Webb appeared en route to another spread cover and another potential upset against Oklahoma at MSG. However, the Sooners made a strong run late in the second half and collected the cover by one point, winning 69-55 as 13-point favorites. Glad I steered clear of a Gardner-Webb selection. OU was the play at halftime, as it went off as a 6 1/2-point 'chalk' with a two-point lead (which equates to an 8 1/2-point spread).
--Unfortunately I was eating dinner during halftime of the Hawks game, so was unable to make a suggestion on the Hawks in the second half. They trailed Seattle by 13 at intermission, resulting in a 5 1/2-point 'chalk' role for halftime wagers. The Hawks have come back to tie the game as they play late in the third quarter.
--10:00ish p.m. Eastern: Atlanta and Seattle are going to OT. The 'over' is already a winner with the score tied at 107-107. Damien Wilkins has a career-high 33 points in his return home, while Joe Johnson has also scored 33 going into the extra session.
--With OT, everything is in play in terms of bets on the side for Atlanta-Seattle. After trailing most of the game, the Hawks can actually cover now as they went off as low as six-point favorites at some books. Then again, Atlanta halftime bets could still lose if Seattle wins by eight. We'll see...
--Boston appeared on pace to cover against Miami when the Celtics took an 11-point lead into the final stanza. But they were unable to cash tickets as 11-point favorites. In fact, the Heat nearly hooked up savvy gamblers with a money-line payout exceeding +500 odds. But in the end, the Celtics took a 92-91 'non-covering' victory.
In his second game back, Dwyane Wade scored 23 points and logged 38 minutes.
--Back to Atlanta, where Wilkins enjoyed a career night with 41 points on 15-of-20 shooting from the field. But with 2.1 seconds left in double overtime and the game tied, Seattle went to rookie Kevin Durant and he did not disappoint. Durant caught the inbound pass at the top of the key and was well defended, but he elevated above the defense and faded away before burying an audacious 30-footer at the horn.
Damn, that was just nasty. Durant finished with 21 points, while Johnson tallied 39 in the losing effort. The Hawks did cash tickets for halftime bettors.
