On Thursday, look for Arkansas to announce Jim Grobe as its next head coach. Also, Navy's Paul Johnson has an interview with Georgia Tech after SMU rolled out the red carpet for him. If Johnson says no to Tech, assuming an offer is forthcoming, look for defensive coordinator and current interim coach Jon Tenuta to be the man for the Yellow Jackets.
Duke is also after Johnson and there are reports that SMU offered Johnson a deal worth $2.1 million.
Where will Wake Forest look for a replacement? If the Johnson-to-Georgia-Tech thing doesn't go down, maybe the Demon Deacons would present a better option than SMU and Duke? Would Glen Mason or Terry Bowden consider returning to the sidelines at Wake Forest? Would Florida co-defensive coordinator Charlie Strong risk the chance of taking his first head-coaching job at a school where nobody other than Grobe has won with any consistency in the last several decades?
If Michigan didn't still think it had a great shot to get Les Miles, don't you think the Wolverines would be looking at bigger names than the Ball State coach they interviewed this week? Trust me, Miles will still be the next coach in Ann Arbor.
Southern Miss is looking at Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, South Carolina defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix, Oklahoma St. offensive coordinator Larry Fedora and Arkansas offensive coordinator David Lee.
Boise State's Chris Petersen doesn't appear to be interested in openings at UCLA or Washington State, and I don't blame him. Petersen can be patient and might have his eye on other potential openings in the not-too-distant future.
