--'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair -- who is a Gator fan for those that don't know --apparently got his "real-life" ass kicked by his daughter's 22-year-old boyfriend.
--Isn't it crazy how ESPN tries to develop drama around non-stories with misleading teasers? On Friday's late-morning 'Sports Center Now,' they indicated that UFC 88's main event (Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans) might be in danger. Then the station left us twisting in the wind for nearly an hour. Turns out, they thought the Iceman wasn't going to make weight, but he did so easily. On Tuesday, various ESPN announcers implied that Braves RHP John Smoltz wanted to play elsewhere next season. Again, as it turns out, that was nowhere near the truth.
--As for the Washington-BYU controversy, it's a terrible rule and a terrible call. And it might cost Ty Willingham his job. You could make a valid argument that similar calls led to Ron Zook's demise at Florida. There was the Swamp Swindle against FSU in 2003, in addition to the rob job at Tennessee in 2004 when the refs incorrectly and inexplicably didn't wind the clock after an-already BS unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Dallas Baker.
--Exact same situation as BYU-UW happened in Vandy's trip to The Swamp during Jay Cutler's senior year. When I introduced myself to Cutler at Bud & Alley's in Seaside, FL., over the summer, I mentioned that his team got hosed at Florida his senior season. He quickly replied, "No, we got fu__!"
--And how about Cutler on Monday night? Man, did he ever look good. And I LOVED him kicking dirt in DeAngelo Hall's eyes in the post-game interview. Not only was Hall getting burned constantly by a rookie (and fellow Va. Tech alum), but he also pulled a 'Me-Angelo' with 30 yards worth of penalties on one drive just like he did in a Falcons' loss against Carolina last season.
--Biggest scrub game in Week 3 of the college football season: Michigan at Notre Dame.
--Two of my favorite people: Erin Andrews and Steve Spurrier.
--Nice comeback by Rice to win at Memphis last week. Tougher loss for the Tigers, though.
--Memo to Randy Shannon II: Do you need some tissues? Have you looked at your career record lately? By my count, it's six wins and eight losses. Quit crying like a scrub and worry about coaching your team.
