Let's just cover a bunch of topics on this Wednesday afternoon...
--What a heartbreaker last night for bettors, including yours truly, backing the Marlins on the run line for an ultra-generous plus-190 return. The Fish led 6-1 going into the eighth inning only to give up five runs and eventually win a 7-6 decision in 12 innings. Nevertheless, my MLB plays are up more than 13 units dating back to May 1st. Here's tonight's pick pack if interested.
--Quote of the Week from Derek Lowe as told to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "Why does everybody get their panties in a wad when the Yankees come to town?"
--I'm stoked to announce that legendary sports writer Paul Finebaum of the Mobile Press-Register will join me on the Power Hours tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Eastern.
--I'm not a big Seth Davis fan (or a fan of any Dookies for that matter), but he has some interesting stuff in this column on SI.com.
--If I'm an NBA GM and want a point guard, I'm more bullish on the late first-round possibilities (FSU's Toney Douglas, Wake Forest's Jeff Teague and VCU's Eric Maynor) than the youngers PGs projected to go in the lottery (Spain's Ricky Rubio, UCLA's Jrue Holiday and Syracuse's Jonny Flynn).
--I love Flynn but I'm just not sold on his long-range jumper. Teague and Stepehn Curry are more in the mold of combo guards than natural PGs.
--Surely Boston GM Danny Ainge isn't really considering trading Rajon Rondo? That would be unfathomable to me. I always knew Rondo was a stud; he just couldn't shoot in college. Now he's got a solid jumper that nearly makes him unguardable.
--For all of you that twitter, you can check me out at vegasbedwards if you wish. I usually do 3-4 updates a week, pointing you to a fresh column or pick pack.
--Georgia AD Damon Evans says there's still a possibility the Dawgs could push for the Florida-Georgia game to be played in Atlanta once every four years. The current contract for the Cocktail Party in Jacksonville expires in 2010. The two schools are going to negotiate a new deal sometime in July.
--ESPN.com is reporting that the Hawks and Warriors are on the cusp of a deal that would send Speedy Claxton and Acie Law to Golden St. for Jamal Crawford. I guess the way to read into this is that the Hawks might not try to re-sign Mike Bibby and will be thinking point guard with their first-round pick. Douglas would be the ideal pick if I'm Atlanta GM Rick Sund.
